Took meds around 10a (later than normal) and I still feel wired, like they are kicking in again (extended release). I am also on sleeping meds, is it normal for ADHD meds to just rule out the other ones? Idk if I’ll be able to get to sleep!

I doubt your sleeping meds are strong. So yes, ADHD meds can override sleeping meds in that situation.

I’ve definitely experienced this. Since starting adderall, I have a hard time winding down at night, going to sleep at least 2 hours later than I used to. I think part of it is a side effect of the meds, but the other part is I have more energy because the meds help my brain work more efficiently throughout the day, so I have more capacity later in the day.

One thing I’ve tried is taking the meds earlier and later and being mindful of how I feel later in the day. If you took it later, as blessedlady said, your adhd meds likely override sleep meds.

Something to consider: there are a variety of foods and some OTC meds that can interact with stimulants in ways you might not expect. I know antacids kick stimulants into high gear for me and if I take them on the same day, I'll be up half the night.

My heart would randomly start racing at the end of the day and it took me so long to realize it was the comedown from the adderall. Agree with the other comments that taking it early is the way to go. Especially with XR, even if it lasts for 6-8 hours the half life is 12 hours i believe so it’s still in your system. I notice when I workout during the comedown it feels like it speeds up the process and it drains the extra energy that helps me sleep better!

One thing I used to do too was wake up an hour before I was “ready” to wake up, eat something filling enough to take the adderall and then go back to bed for an hour or so. I would always wake up feeling so refreshed and I swear whenever I nap on adderall it feels like such a restful sleep, maybe because my brain is forced to sleep for once 😂 I wish I woke up early enough to do this more but my body refuses to wake up in the first place so it’s a struggle
