My son is prescribed lithium to help stabilize his moods. Anyone else? What do you think about that drug? Any positive changes?

Hello, Jeeje~

My mother takes lithium for her bi-polar disorder. It does seem to help her mood swings from the manic "high" to the low depression. It helped to regulate her emotions and keep her more in the "middle".

I was reading more information about it on the NAMI website too- here's the link~

Hope this helps you out.

Best~

Lithium is an old school

Psychotropic Med. My mother took it 4

years. However a problem arose, when she did not have her lithium checked for a few years. She developed lithium poisoning and was in a coma for a week. As usual, I was the only there for her. Please make sure

that your son has his lithulium numbers measured on a regular basis. U might want to speak to his therapist about changing your son’s potent meds. Please keep up with the latest literature. Good luck M

Hey jeeje, i agree with what the other members said. In addition, lithium is a very very old school mood stabilizer. It is extremely harsh on the body, must have blood work done to see if its making the person toxic, etc etc

Please tell me that your son isnt taking lithium to treat ADHD! Yikes!!

From my personal experience, Lithium worked for around a year (400mg daily) but I started to have breakdown after breakdown, manic episodes and depression, so they increased my dosage to 800mg. I became toxic and swollen. Plus, it decreased my fertility. I’m 32 now and on something called Quetiapine. Apart from weight gain, this seems to control my mania and depression.
