Hi everyone I’m AJ I’ve struggled with ADHD pretty much my whole life but only recently officially diagnosed. I’ve also struggled with depression and anxiety and never realized how connected they were to my ADHD. Reading through the posts I️ can see I’m not alone, which is very comforting. I️ hope I️ can offer support to anyone who is in need. Thanks!
Hello: Hi everyone I’m AJ I’ve... - CHADD's Adult ADH...
Hello
Welcome☺
I too struggle with anxiety as well. How do you see the connection of ADHD to anxiety? How have you dealt with it?
For me..its like a "cognitive anxiety...overwhelmed by details and poor working memory...afraid I forget something so its like my mind is full of details or worries which take up my mental hard drive space?
What's your experience like?
Willowman
Hi Willowman that pretty much describes what my experience has been like. Often when I’m reading or working on a project I️ get so overwhelmed by the details that I️ feel like I’m missing something and important. I️ constantly replay past failures or anticipate future ones and so I️ never seem to be in the moment. I’m not sure if you can relate but I️ appreciate your response.
Thanks,
Aj
Hi Aj,
Yes..the details..I totally get What you're saying. I find EVERYTHING is detailed and my thing is "well what's first? Or what's most important?" So I end up overwhelmed..paralysed..anxious or pissed off lol
I see now how emotions are connected and I find that making decisions or staying on track with a decision..is largely imlacted by "emotional planning" which seems great in the moment..but sometimes not so good later😞
So..building self esteem..and getting support to feel better about oneself is very important. Yes..the old tapes can run around in one's head and totally spin out of control.
Here's a cool post/blog on the "emotional decision making"..see if this offers anything:
