My grand baby is 7 years old on Adderall 20 mg. She is not focus in class and I would like to know if there is a program or suggestions how to get her test ready? Something to help with the constant dialogue and not up to par with her grades. Any suggestion is appreciated.

I assume your grand baby sees a specialist (child psychiatry) for medication management. Pediatricians are great, but ADHD has so many add-on issues like ODD (Oppositional Defiance Disorder), that the specialist provides a much greater resource for diagnosis and management.
We also heard that with ADHD, the emotional development is about 70% of the physical age, and we see this. So a 7 year old has the emtional age of a 5 year-old.
Do not lose hope. Having ADHD kiddos in general education classes does not provide the proper environment at times, but it does remain the goal.
Inquire of the school about their special ed programs. There can be a few. We are fortunate to be in a school district that has a specific Behavioral Intervention program run by someone with their Masters in teaching and further educated in child behavioral analysis, and is supported by two para-professionals. This environment has heped our son immensley in just 5 months.
Again, the right meds (not overdoing meds) and the right school environment is key.
Sincerely appreciate your time , the school does so little we are located in south Florida and it’s so hard to get help, you are correct she does see pediatrician, do you have any very good virtual psychiatrist to recommend?? I get so overwhelmed at times , I don’t think I have the right resources 😌
I understand your overwhelming feelings. We've dealt with a lot since the journey of ADHD began (anxiety and behaviors too). I'm not from FL so I can't suggest any psychiatrists but I would ask the pediatrician for suggestions/referrals or try your insurance company for a list. You may want to try some local mental health services as well. Lots of times therapists may work with psychiatrists or have recommendations. Hope this is helpful. Good luck and stay strong. 🙏
I do not know of any virtual Psychiatry resources. I believe the best outcomes are when the Child Psychiatrist can actually "see" the child and all of their movements, words and actions in a live visit. It is hard for an ADHD child to interact virtually.
Hello. My daughter had the same challenges when she was in grade school. For years we searched for a solution to support her . I have to share that only thing that worked for her was to homeschool. It was a game change for her the anxiety went away the learning challenges reduced, she learned how to learn. Homeschooling also allowed her to get the movement she required to regulate.
Hi ugh I know that lost feeling so well. You are not alone. If you are interested in homeschooling I would reach out to homeschooling groups in your area. There are so many to choose from these days. I was so intimidated by homeschooling because im not trained as a teacher but found mothers who had been homeschooling there children with adhd and dyslexia for years with great success, these women who were all strangers held my hand. I can gather more info and forward if you’re interested.
I don't have a lot of practical solutions for your situation but I just wanted to encourage you and to give you hope. If you are worried the medication is not working perhaps a different med is needed? This requires a conversation with the doctor. Also about the testing, maybe a different school environment that specializes in special needs children would be a better fit or maybe your grandbaby qualifies for additional services in the current school. Above all, dealing with this is a journey. Don't neglect your own self care, get rest and proper nutrition so you can be strong.
