Hello- What non stimulants have you tried that have been successful with ADHD symptoms. My daughter is currently on Clonidine .1mg at night which is great as far as getting her to settle down at night time and go to bed. Without it or if I'm late to give it she does not sleep. So not looking to stop the Clonidine at night.
I do think that she needs something to take in the morning before school that is more effective. She is really struggling at sports, at home and at school. Has anyone had success with any non stimulant use that we could speak with the pediatrician about trying? We have a follow up appointment on Thursday and the only other recommendation they currently have is Ritalin. I am trying to hold off on stimulant medications until she is a little older- She is only 4.5
I have searched through so many old posts on this site in hopes of a success story, and figured it would be easier to just ask.
We are also back to being waitlisted for OT
Thank you in advance!🙂

My 6yo daughter is on Clonidine 100mcg but her prescription is to only take half a tablet at night. We had the same problem as you, the effects wore off about midday and it was effecting her school, sport etc. We went back to the specialist and they suggested we give her a quarter tablet in the morning. So she still isn't taking a full dose all in all. It definitely works to keep her attention going for a bit longer during the day.
I would be interested to hear others' suggestions on non-stimulants as well on this thread.
my son is on intuniv 1mg at night. It’s similar to clonidine, both are blood pressure medications. It definitely helps him slow down and he says it improves his focus at school. I would love to increase the dose but it decreases his blood pressure too much. He has not been able to tolerate stimulant medications- he gets more irritable and agitated with them.
