New to Vyvanse 30mg... Not sure it's working yet... What Should I expect?

Dear Helpful Readers & Fellow Sufferers,

I am a 34 year old female. I have taken methylphenidate since 2019, & it used to work pretty well for me overall,

(despite a side effect or two) but over the last 6 or so months, it has lost its efficacy significantly, & after speaking with my provider, & trying (and failing) with a different option we have decided to try Vyvanse. It was explained to me that Vyvanse has the potential to last longer through the day with only one daily dose. This sounded positive to me, and perhaps I'm jumping the gun, because it's only my second day in. But so far, it kinda feels like I'm just on the same 60mg dose of methylphenidate that I've been on that has been losing its working power. I'm not sure what I expected, I am keeping a daily journal of how I'm feeling every day of my 7 day trial. My provider says that I am able to adjust the dose by 10mg's if this one isn't quite high enough. But I suppose my question is, what should I expect to be noticing? What is the difference between 30mg & 40mgs? ... I needed to switch because, 1)methylphenidate was wearing off too soon 2) my work has noticed a change in my focus, energy, & attention span 3)I have felt less motivated & less tuned in myself as of late.

So what should I be looking to expect during this change? How do I know if I'm seeing improvement?

Thanks for your answers & time,

~Magdalena88

hi Magdalena,

Im also taking vyvanse daily and it isn’t the same as adderall or IR dexamfetamine.

if you were taking 60mg methylphenidate it equals 30mg dex. But vyvanse doesn’t translate that way, which means 50mg of vyvanse equals 14,8 mg dex. So I’m guessing you’ll going to need like 50 mg to get a better response. Which I’m taking and I’ve been on 60mg methylphenidate a year ago, but couldn’t tolerate the side-effects.

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for the helpful info! Judging by how I'm feeling (day 3) and what I've read, & how I know I've responded to past stimulants in the past, that about meets my educated guess as well. The intention is to go up in 10mg increments until we've found a working dose. I am just hoping a new dose truly works.

Thanks so much for all the help and advice,

Best Regards,

Magdalena

you’re welcome! I’m also occasionally splitting my dose, mix my 50mg with 2 cups of water, drink 1 cup in the morning around 7am and the next one around 12, that seems to work better for me. If I take 50mg at once at 7am, I notice a crash around 13:00

Definitely stopped having the afternoon crashes once I split my dose. I now take 30 around 7-7:30am and 20 or 30 anytime up until 10am latest
