Guanfacine plus Prozac?

Hello parents with children who have been diagnosed with any combination of ADHD/tic disorder/OCD/ anxiety:

Have you tried adding a low dose of Prozac to your child’s Guanfacine regimen? I’m curious to know what you all think!

My 9 year old takes Quillivant (ADHD), zoloft (OCD), and guanfacine (tics/aggression) and is doing well on all 3.

Hello! My 9 year old son is on guanfacine and Zoloft. We felt like it took a few months to see a difference but it is helping him.

My 8 year old son is on Guanfacine, Focalin and Prozac. We have seen amazing results. His anxiety has decreased and his ODD has gotten way better. I was very nervous to try an SSRI but it is the only thing that has worked for us. My son was getting in a lot of trouble with school and after a couple weeks his behavior got so much better.

My son has been taking Prozac, Abilify and Metadate CD. Yesterday they added Guanafacine 2mg. He has been having a hard time at school with frustration, impulsiveness and defiance at times along with disrespect to teachers at times. In adding the Guanafacine, we are hoping to help him be less impulsive and eliminate the quick to anger issue. Today is day 2 of the newest med ans he had a really rough day with being irritable and disrespectful. How long did it take for you to notice a definite change? I know the doctor said it would have to build up in his system!

It took about a week for us to notice a distinct change in behavior. Prayers to you! We are all in this together!!!!

Ok thank you! We have been struggling for years. It just seems we can’t find the right combination. Did your child have any side effects initially taking the medicine? Today is day three for my son and day two and three we’ve had moderate to severe irritability!

The combo that works for my son is FocalinXR 15mg, Prozac 10mg and Guanfacine 1mg twice a day. Everyone is indifferent but really the only time my son gets really irritable is when he hasn’t eaten enough. Due to the side effects of the Focalin his appetite has really decreased so he doesn’t feel hungry however his body still needs to eat. At about 4pm we start seeing the more irritable side and know he needs food ASAP. We have been working on strategies for helping him eat throughout the day even though he doesn’t feel hungry. He is starting to become more aware and will now actually come tell us he is getting “hangry” and needs to eat before he gets more irritated.

My 6 y/o son has ADHD and anxiety. He is on Focalin, Guanfacine, and fluxoteine(prozac).

Prior to the Prozac 10mg his anxiety was quite bad. Scared of being anywhere alone, bugs, outdoors, peers. He is now a different kiddo for the better! He does not have any side effects from it thankfully. He takes 1mg guanfacine in the am and 2mg in early evening.

My grandson is on Guanfancine and Wellbutrin. It has been a great combination for his anxiety and depression.

My 8 year old son has been on Guanfacine and Zoloft for 4 months now and it has helped him tremendously. His meltdowns have decreased dramatically and he is much less anxious. I saw results with him immediately when I put him on Zoloft and have seen improvement at school with the addition of Guanfacine.
