I would love to hear about any experiences with the Amen Clinics. We are considering taking our 16-year-old with atypical ADHD to the nearest clinic 8 hours away for a 2-day full evaluation. The idea of a brain scan that gives more objective information for a better diagnosis is intriguing, but I wonder if it is for real. I also worry that we will then be pressured to follow up with costly treatments and non-ending nutritional supplements.
Thanks in advance,
Jan

I brought our son for the scan mostly because I wanted to check for brain damage due to possible drug exposure in the womb (we adopted him at 12), so having that knowledge (no damage :)) was very helpful. The diagnoses of ring of fire ADHD (which is pretty much just adhd- combined) was telling me what I already knew. The doctor, although quite lovely, was no better or worse than any psychiatrist we have used since. They did recommend supplements, but they are the same type all my research concludes are relevant and helpful for adhd. I did not feel any pressure from them at all. If you can afford it, it might be worth trying for atypical issues, but I would not recommend going into this much debt if it will be a hardship for you. I don’t think it’s worth it. Just my 2 cents!
