Hello parents that are struggling with the same issues as me. Just joined the community and I it is nice to know that I am not alone in this. I have a 9 year old diagnosed with ADHD, odd. You know the symptoms and how difficult it is to see your child struggle. My son have been on 5 different kind of medications, currently on vyvance and strattera. Focus gets better in school but anger, impulse control, behavior issues huge struggle. We have a psychiatrist that basically said it is a trial and error to find the correct medication. I was always wondering why adhd medication is trial and error. I researched a lot and found Amen clinics that scan your brain and prescribe medication based on what the scan shows. I listened to you tube where the founder talked about research they have done. I will try to share link if it works. I am interested to see if any of you went to Amen clinics and what was your experience ? Did you feel that they helped ? Did you find a solution ? What was the process? Cost ? Is this just another place trying to get your $ or did they help to improve your child’s life ?

Any info would be very helpful.

Sharing you tube link, it is really worth listening for 15 minutes. Would love to hear your opinion.

I looked into it several years ago and asked a therapist, and at the time learned that there was no scientific proof that it works. It is very costly.

I just talked to the Amen clinic this week. It’s $4000. We are on the fence. I too have 8 yr old boy ADHD. I’m going to a new Psychiatrist today to see if we need to adjust/ change his meds. Amen seemed promising but I wonder if it just brings false hope for an answer. Idk. I would love to talk to someone that actually benefited from the outcome. Besides their company testimonies.

Thank you for your reply. Please share if you find someone that did the scan. I would also like to talk to them. We changed meds multiple times but I feel that we just keep going in circles. Things are getting worth.

I would recommend you research broad spectrum micronutrients. There is a TedX for those too with Julia Rucklidge. There are two companies, Hardy Nutritionals and True Hope. You definitely need a psychiatrist who is on board as if they are effective for your child, their dosage of medication may need to be reduced or eliminated. Wishing you the best!

We adopted our now 10 year old granson - our SON - as an infant. Like our daughter, he has inattentive ADD, but as yet, he does not exhibit the other issues with which she struggled. He just had our first visit with one of the same psychologist, Dr. K, who worked with our daughter about 20 years ago. He highly recommends Dr. Amen's methods, though he has not suggested a brain scan. At Dr. K's request, I found and have begun reading Dr. Amen's book, Healing ADD. Very interesting and worth a try. Dr K also started him on a supplement, Bacopa Monnieri, to help his feelilngs of hopelessness, though he said it would take a few months to see the effect. We are self-pay for all medical expenses, so a brain scan is not an option. I will be following and looking forward to what others have to share. Prayers for improvement for us all!

I know 2 families that did the evaluation and scan and did not find it useful in the long term. The diagnoses for both of the children were clear on the history and how they appeared , when the correct questions were asked.

Thank you so much for your replay. Do you think it would be possible for you to connect me with the families so I can ask some questions. I know it is a lot to ask but would love to talk to them

Sorry, I can't. One family moved out of town. I have not seen the other parent in a long time (the child is now grown and likely on his own).

I have no direct experience with Dr. Amen's work, but from my research he seems to really really like brain scans. Even for marriage counseling. This also introduces radiation, which I would be super hesitant about. His research does not seem to be peer reviewed or independently verified / replicated or even used outside of the Amen Clinics - which is a big red flag for me.

That being said, a family member who is a psychologist did recommend one of his books to me, so those may have some value.
