My daughter, 26 and a college graduate, has been diagnosed with recurrent depression, anxiety, ADHD and has LD's. Been home for over 4 years after graduating wanting to go to grad school in marine biology. She works 1/2 day once a week at an aquarium and teaches swimming. Sees a psychiatrist, has seen therapists. We try to help her with info and writing for applications to grad school, but she doesn't follow through and lies. Also dating an 18 year old. Her psychiatrist recommended ketamine treatment and was wondering if anyone has experience with it. Thank you.

I don't have any experience with this but I have read that both Michael Jackson and Prince died of an overdose of this. It is a form of Fentanyl. I would be careful.

Thank you for making me aware of this! I had no idea so I will definitely look into it. I'm getting so desperate I'll try anything, but not if that is the outcome!

It’s not an opiate such as fentanyl. It’s a type of anesthesia used at very very mild doses. I start my infusions this week. Do some searches online and you’ll see how it actually works on the brain.

I have had Ketamine treatment for depression. It changed my life... in a profound but subtle ways. It has enabled me to stop taking antidepressants. There is some variability in Ketamine treatments. I chose an intensive 3-day treatment vs. one in which I go monthly. I was living at the time in a rural place and going once a month was really not a viable option. My family has seen a big change in me as a result of it.

Thank you so much for your reply! My daughters doctor just told me about it and I've been reading good and bad things like no changes in feeling at all. I'm rather nervous about it. Hope you don't mind me asking a few questions. We live in the DC area and there are several places that offer it so finding the right one is the most important. How did you decide on where you went? Also, how did you know how many treatments you needed and is it long lasting? My daughter can function, but can't get herself to do anything to help herself so the psychiatrist thought this would be a good try. There's a trial at NIH, but it's inpatient and I don't think that would be good for her. Oh, one more question. Did you remain on any anti depressants or anti anxiety pills and still get therapy? So you would recommend it? I can no longer live here with her and tried to help with what she wants but she continues to not try to help herself and lies and seems not to care how she affects others. I know she's unhappy and she's bringing the whole family down with her. I just hope this would change her frame of mind and give her the motivation she needs. Thank you again for sharing your information with me, I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. She's a good kid, not on drugs or an alcoholic, just unsure of herself, has a self defeating attitude and scared.

Ketamine is not a form of Fentanyl but is an anesthetic. There is some research showing a positive effect in depression at lower doses. webmd.com/depression/featur....

It is not used for ADHD. This is something she has to discuss with her psychiatrist.

Thank you clarifying things! I didn't think her psychiatrist would steer me wrong. She's already on medication for her ADHD. This would be for her depression and anxiety which the doctor feels is causing her problems of just shutting down. I appreciate your help immensely!
