Traveling to Canada

Does anyone know what steps we need to take for traveling to Canada with my son’s stimulant medication?

Since it is a controlled substance here in the US, I wasn’t sure if there are extra restrictions or requirements to be able to take the medication in / out of the country with him.

Thanks!

I always bring medication in original bottles so there are no questions. Then I put it into his pill dispenser which he takes his medication from ( plastic M-F).

Thanks! I wasn’t sure if I’d need a doctor’s note or some sort of customs pre-approval or whatnot.

I appreciate your input!

We traveled to Vancover then Alaska. When they asked in my carry on ( I only carry them with me not in my luggage. But I also keep a screen shot of his medication.

Hope this helps

When we travel I always get a letter from the doctor and bring the medication in original bottles. I don’t know, if it is necessary - we have never been questioned and had to show it, but it makes me more relaxed when I know we got it😊.

Have a wonderful trip.

Thank you! Maybe I’ll get the note just to be safe.

Honestly, I think I’m more worried about bringing it back into the US than getting into Canada. Lol.

It is like when we travel home to Bermuda, as long as the medicines are in the bottle dispense by the pharmacy with the pediatrician name on it you should be fine. As an extra step, have your child's pedititrian write a letter saying you are the guardian and the child has been prescribe the medicine. It is good to have it on you and not need it then to need the letter and not have it. Good luck.
