I just started my 15 year old son on them and it is going very well. I was terrified too, but the wonderful thing about the older kids starting is that he is really well able to verbalize how he feels on them and any good/bad he notices. Definitely helps in finding the correct dose/med. It is so normal to be scared, we all are - but Im a scientist and did my research and found that stimulant drugs for ADHD have been prescribed for 70+ years, are some of the most well studied drugs out there, and are very safe. The thing that sold me is that there is no build up in the system so if she hates it, she just stops taking it and as soon as that pill is done, there is absolutely no lasting effect! I also try to put it into perspective that I have willingly taken drugs to increase production of certain hormones in my life, so why was I so scared these that do the same thing? Its ok to feel what you are feeling - you are a great mom - ask your doctor for some of the decades of research on ADHD meds and that might ease your mind some. Best of luck to you and your daughter!
