DVT recovery

Hi,

My sister had unprovoked DVT twice in her leg. Both were extensive. On Abixiban. I wondered about people's previous experiences on her getting back to running and hillwalking? They are things she loves and is really missing them. I wondered if anyone had a timescale from previous experiences or any supplements or diets that helped? Thank you

Sorry to hear that. I’m sure she will return, just take it gradually and build it up. Maybe worth checking if the clots have reduced and blood is now flowing through or found different routes. A scan can do this.

Thank you for your reply. Shes going back to dr tomorrow

When I was discharged from the hospital after having blood clots in my lungs back in 2017 I had asked the nurse what exercises were safe to do and when could I go back to exercise and she had said walking was fine to do but to stop if it hurt or I was puffed out and told me to build up gradually.

Hi,

I've had three separate DVTs last one I had was so extensive.

I do have a blood clotting abnormality factor 5 Leiden . Has she been tested for any clotting abnormalities?

My DVTs were caused from the contraceptive pill, pregnancy and flying.

I'm on rivoxaban for life now.

NIECE guidelines suggest after two DVTs a blood thinner should be scribed for lifetime.

Has her GP mentioned about doing some investigations?

The last blood clot I had it took about 6months for me to feel better but my leg was damaged already from the previous two I had had.

I had an 18 year gap after my second DVT and been flying all over the world, so the last clot I had really shocked me.

My leg has never been the same going upstairs really effects me feels like my right leg has ran a marathon. All my DVTs went to the same leg .

Hope your sister finds some answers .

Thank you for your reply. Sorry to hear you've had 3. They have checked for some underlying clotting disorders but nothing has been found.

Its interesting to hear your leg improved for 6months. Hopefully the same will happen with her.

I'll pass on the information you've given. Thanks again
