Advice post pe

I had a pe after my c-section on 2017 and have been on Apixaban since then. I was lucky as it was small and since then I have had all the blood tests and have not been diagnosed with any clotting disorders. I really don't want to come off Apixaban as I feel safer and I have now got used to taking it. Had anyone else stayed on this medication even when the doctor had thought about stopping it. Also can you get a vena cava filter fitted privately.

Thanks

Only ever do what a doctor prescribes, you could always ask for a second opinion from another Doctor if you are still concerned.

I would do ANYTHING to get off of it. or any bloodthinner. If you are not at risk, I cannot imagine why you would want to stay on it. I have developed a chronic pain issue since being on it, no one will blame the medication, although that is the ONLY factor in my life that has changed in the past 3 years. And the worst part is, every kind of medication or treatment that WOULD help me with the pain cannot be taken with the bloodthinner due to risk of hemmorage. OR I would have to go off it for several days to have injections, which puts me at risk for another DVT>

It's a tricky one.... I had a cvst (my blood clot was on the brain!)...

Was on warfarin for 2 years.

Imagine how scary it was to come off warfarin....

But after discussion with my consultant we decided it would be best. The tisk of damage to other organs and potential risk of bleeds outweighed any potential benefits.

So, I now take baby aspirin daily and asked my consultant to put in writing why I have decided not to take warfarin any longer. Seeing that every so often I was reminded why I wasn't taking it.

I took my mind off the worry by travelling to India for 6 weeks!

Good luck
