DVT Recovery

Hi I have recently had my second DVT(lower calf) and have been prescribed Apixiban. I also have Lupus. I am into week 5, I am very fatigued and generally feel 'weak'. I am wondering when others with the same experience started to feel much better, should I be feeling better by now?

Alas, it seems to take at least six months to recover, and very probably longer. Do pace yourself, do what you can and don't attempt what you can't. I'm still having to pace myself nearly a year after my PEs, although I really am a lot better now, walking more and have started an exercise class. But I still find it all too easy to overdo it and then I have to spend most of the next day asleep.

Thank you

I got told it takes about 6 months on average to recover but that's just an average.

You will recover when you are good and ready for it.

Best of luck!

I had my second DVT 4 months ago (no indication as to why... beyond a back injury months beforehand) and I am still not 100%... lethargic and lacking energy, tired. I do have good days.... and then I seem to teeter back and forth. I see a big difference from how I was 5 weeks in though--- so it's tough, but remain patient with your body.... it does take a while to bounce back. As for Apixiban, I have no experience with that as I've was bridged from Lovenox to Warfarin. I have heard good things though and am currently looking into making the switch to a DOAC so I may resume my healthy eating preferences and variety. Hang in there! Best!

Have you got Antiphospholipid Syndrome sticky blood this often goes along with lupus

With this condition Warfarin is the drug of choice INR 3-4 recommended, people are not always tested for this and the test is not 100% some people don’t have a positive test, but have the condition, medical history should be taken into account

Hope you feel better soon

Hi Daisyd, thanks for the reply, apparently my most recent bloods haven't showed positive for sticky blood, however my lupus never quite 'fits' criteria. Since the DVT Im having a few issues, increased fatigue, raynauds has worsened, ulcers, rashes etc, so I need a recheck on my bloods. I haven't had anything significant for sometime so this is really impacting on me.

I still get very tired . I sleep for a while, then awake for hours . I would love to run again, but couldn’t do it at the moment . Let’s hope we all get better .
