Background: I had a PSMA PET done Jan21 while on ADT with very low PSA. The question from my RO was whether it was worth the effort? This study says that there could be a benefit from being on ADT during a PSMA PET...there are other indications to the contrary, but I though this was important. My note;
ADT INCREASES THE SENSETIVITY of PSMA PET scans…
> HAS A ‘UPTAKE’ EFFECT ON RESULTS,
> ie, it makes the tumors STAND OUT!!!
> Study; men w NEGATIVE bone scans and then were imaged on PSMA PET, the majority had tumor growth found in 1) prostate bed, 2) lymph nodes…
> suggested in podcast; do not WAIT to get a scan with PSA > 0.5 ng/dl…
> a PSA at 0.2 will provide less than 50% sensitivity (finding tumors)
> a PSA at 0.5 or above; you are north of 50% sensitivity...
