I'm lucky and grateful. If I were to walk into an ER I would be told "no, you don't have pancreatitis, you don't have cirrhosis and I'm a drug seeker". I have cacific pancreatitis so no high pancreatic enzymes (I take pancreatic enzymes but Dr's don't read that far into my chart), as I had Hep C for over 25 years, was treated 5x's with interferon aND a few times with the cocktail of interferon and ribaviron, my liver enzymes appear stable. (I was finally cured 1 abd a half years ago. Sadly, my body is a mess. I have a laundry list of health concerns and no Dr can tie the root cause of these symptoms to the problem. As I was kicked out of an HMO, thanks to our 'great political system', my Medicaid wasn't being taken ANYWHERE and after begging for an extension on my HMO I finally found a PA that took me on. I've been on pain meds forever. Anyone with severe chronic pain can tell you that anxiety and pain go hand in hand. Luckily, my new PA, after exhausting every pain Dr and clinic, found another Dr at UCH that agreed I need pain meds. This PA is not close to home but has been a gift from God. She says I'm terminally ill so that war on opiates doesn't apply to me. If you live in Colorado the new law states you cannot be on opiates and benzo's at the same time UNLESS you get a yearly psych consult. Ok, I did that and I'm grateful that my new PA sees,me, looks into my chart and my soul. As this is chronic she sent me for a STAT CT scan and blood work, the CT scan shows how bad things really are, the blood work shows I'm metabolically unstable. This new set of eyes, with a soul, actually cares and sees me for what I am....a very sick woman in her 50's. Thank God she knows the state law changes and knows how to use them to benefit me. I agree with you, every state has different laws regarding pain management. Do not give up. Keep searching and don't take no for an answer! You know your body. Please be an advocate for yourself!!
