A kind of waving feeling in my right head,and tinnitus in my right ear..

Hi, im worried about my situation, hope someone can explain this to me .last year i went for a check up w my doctor becos i have been feeling dizzy to the point when its difficult for me to even move from my bed and walking feels like im going to fall on my feet and my hands are also shaking.. At furst i went to an ENT dr. But they didnt find anything wrong with my ear, then i went to a neurologist and i was diagnosed with anxiety..the meds did work until this January 2023 i slowly started feeling faint dizziness on my right head ,its like a waving kind of feeling only in my right head and i hear tinnitus in my left ear. And it doesnt go away until now. Im observing my self, balance is still there..hearing is still perfect, but my problem is rhis waving sensation and tinnitus that wont go away... Could this be and early signs of AN? Can anyone share their experience before you discovered you have AN?

Hi AnneNY,

unilateral hearing loss is a primary marker for a AN. Dizziness and tinnitus are common symptoms that potentially can have many causes that are sometimes difficult to get to the bottom of. As A N is rare, the general rule is not to worry about it unless you have been diagnosed with having one , and the only way that will happen is if you have a MRI scan.

I had a brain scan last year, and the results came back normal. However, I was experiencing visible symptoms of anxiety, so my doctor advised me to take anxiety medication. I felt better for a few months, but recently, I started experiencing dizziness/waving sensation in only the right side of my head.Im scared and worried that I may need to undergo the same procedure again, and I'm concerned that the results may not be good.

Hi Anne. What makes you think it might be an AN? Has one of your doctors mentioned them? With the proviso that I’m not a medic, AN symptoms will generally be on one side, ie both tinnitus and “waves”.

I had a brain scan last year, and it came back normal. After taking anxiety medication, the waving sensation disappeared for a few months. However, I recently started experiencing this sensation again, but only on the right side of my head. I'm worried because I read that this could be a symptom of AN. Additionally, I've been hearing a ringing in my ears, and it's louder on my right side.It's scary to think that I might need to go back to my doctor for another brain scan, and the results may not be good.

When you say a brain scan, do you mean an MRI (the tunnel scanner rather than the doughnut scanner)? If it was clear last year when you were having the symptoms, then the chances are it would still be clear if you had another MRI. Yes, these noises can be symptoms of an AN, but ANs are very rare, so it's far more likely to be a symptom of something else entirely, in which case you need to go back to the doctor.

Hi AnneNYI think you should take up your symptoms with your GP again. AN's are rare and only diagnosed after an MRI scan.

My symptoms prior to diagnosis were a full feeling in my ear, hearing loss and tinnitus, I was also very off balance when walking. The. ENT doctor found nothing wrong with my ear, but because I mentioned the balance problem he sent me for an MRI. I've known about my AN for almost 10 years now. It is something you can live with.

Good luck and try not to worry - easier said than done I know especially if you are suffering with anxiety.
