Is Acoustic Neuroma Passed to the Next Generation?

I am not sure if I am asking the right question here. However, I have been quite anxious and therefore would appreciate it if anyone can share their experience. My boyfriend and I are planning to have children in the future. He has Acoustic Neuroma (unilateral) and although Google says it is not hereditary, could someone share their experience if it's safe for us to have children. We would appreciate any guidance.

Hi, from my limited understanding AN is not hereditary unless you have the condition NF2 which most commonly presents with bi lateral AN and is the least common form, ie most people with AN do not have NF2. If in doubt, consult with the specialist who is the best person to advise you both.

I had an AN and under investigation for Nf2. The doctors have all been very straight from the start with me and shortly after finding my AN that I may have it. This is only because I was so young when I first developed it (around 10). Now only 26.

I am under a genetics consultant.

There are two reasons why AN happens, one is it just does, no one knows.

The other is Nf2 and it is very rare they say. If your boyfriends parents haven't got Nf2 it's very unlikely he will have it.

I wouldn't panic, just be straight with the specialists. Ask them, and ask them to be totally honest and they will be.
