Hi. After a hospital appointment today where I had all the usual hearing tests I was referred for an MRI which came as a bit of a shock but he can’t see anything so thinks it may be more to do with nerves. My symptoms are significant hearing loss in my left ear, tinnitus and sometimes dizzy spells. I grew up with glue ear and had several operations which left a lot of scar tissue in both ears. I have always been partially deaf in both ears due to this however last year which would have been about 25 years after I was discharged from ENT I woke up one morning and my left ear felt completely blocked and I was constantly dizzy and feeling sick. The doctor wasn’t 100% sure what it was but said it may be congestion so gave me a nasal spray which didn’t really do much. One year later and I don’t always feel dizzy but occasionally feel like I’ve had a few too many but my hearing hasn’t returned and I have a constant rushing and buzzing in my ears. I think I may have just got use to the symptoms though. After googling symptoms as you do and wondering why I might be sent for an MRI I came across AN which im wondering if this may be the cause but we will see. So my question is has anyone who’s been diagnosed with an AN also had previous issues with their ears such as glue ear?
New here.: Hi. After a hospital... - Acoustic Neuroma ...
New here.
Best to get it all properly diagnose and I can assure you, you are in one of the VERY best hospitals for treatment. Hope all goes well, I am under the MRI
Referring you for an MRI was the proper call. I had what I thought was "glue" ear for months. I self-diagnosed and local physician agreed with me. After months, I went to an ENT doctor who said I could not hear the "pop" in the right ear because I had no hearing in that ear. MRI showed an acoustic neuroma. I am on "watch and wait" as far as treatment goes. Good luck with your MRI.
I also thought I had glue ear for a year and the GP said it would be this, but the pressure test when I finally pushed to be referred showed it wasn't. The feeling of a full ear comes from the hearing loss, I hated it bit have got used to it.
Hi Missywissywoo, I had very similar symptoms to you. My GP in UK was useless so in the end went private as I was going crazy with the symptoms. Glad I did as was given a MRI which showed an AN. Now its wait and watch to see what it will do.
