Help for vertigo

I am 69 years old and have a 6-7 mm AN on the right side that was diagnosed about a year and a half ago. I have lost all the hearing on my right side which happened one weekend about 2 months ago. I have always been very active right up until about a month and a half ago when my balance started to go. I had to leave work on STD because of my balance and loss of hearing. I have now started to have dizziness along with the balance problem. I went to Mass. Eye and Ear and the Dr. said you realize you're 69 not 29 years old and told me I would have to come back in December for another MRI. I live in NH and go to my local ENT, and both Dr.s said I should start balance therapy. However, the point to this whole story is that the dizziness is getting so bad now that it's hard to even get out of bed let alone trying to do anything short of sitting down in a chair and not moving. It is getting very hard to drive which makes It hard to get out and get groceries or whatever. Does the vertigo ever get better or am I doomed to just wither away in bed and die?

Hi, you sound totally frustrated which I fully understand, looks like your condition is not improving so potentially the AN is growing giving the side effects you mention. I would try and get another mri ASAP to confirm this. December probably sounds along way away to you. Would suspect gamma knife surgery is the potential solution if the tumor is growing giving you the symptoms you describe. Do not sit back and wait, push at all occasions. Let them know you will not just put up with it and neither should you. There is a solution here so head up and go fight for it. Hope this helps good luck.

wwoodward49:

I agree with Leodo, it seams that your AN is growing quickly and needs to be killed (via Gamma-Knife) before your symptoms get worse. As far as vertigo/dizziness is concerned, you can start to resolve it immediately using cerebellum-resetting exercises that I developed back in 2002 to regain my balance. It will take a month or two of doing the exercises every day to get your balance back, but it should give noticeable relief after a few days; once resolved you only need to do them weekly and then monthly. Refer to the following link for the exercises and also refer to its attached PDF for a fuller explanation of how to do these simple exercises.

I received an email from someone with your problems: "Hi Dean: I had an acoustic neuroma removed 6 years ago. I found your one page article on the treadmill exercises and they have made an amazing difference in my life. I am very thankful that you shared this and that it somehow popped up on my Google search early last year. Terry".

Don’t wait for treatment if it is this bad this quick. They don’t always grow slowly and the symptoms can get worse quite quickly.

I’m getting an injection in my ear to kill the nerve to stop the vertigo and dizziness. It may help the tinnitus. Chicago drs have been doing it a while to rehab balance before surgery or radiation to split the trauma of treatment and get better result. Suggest you ask your specialist about it.

Thank you, I’ll definitely talk with my Dr.

I hope everything goes well for you and would be interested in knowing if the procedure works for you.
