Help with gymnastics rings!

Right so I've started a course on gymnastics rings with a great trainer.

Now we're starting on building muscles and flexibility to do inverts backwards I've noticed that my arms ache during and after particularly the inner elbow joint. I think I'm locking my elbow (when leaning forwards with rings behind) and thus putting extra strain on the ligaments. Are there any strengthening / conditioning exercises I could do?

I can do forward inverts without a problem. I also do pole fitness and no problems there.

I'll have a chat with my trainer next week. But just thought I'd put it out there so I can see what I could do in the mean time.

I'm afraid I've never used gymnastic rings! I do dips in the gym (sm.askmen.com/askmen_gr/pho... and noticed that when I fully lock my arms out I too get a bit of elbow pain. So, I simply started not fully locking out. That seems to have helped. Not sure it's helpful to you, though!

I'd love to hear what your trainer says if you'd stick it in the comments of this post!

wow I hadn't replied to this, apologies!

My trainer says it's because I hyper extend and lock my joints, so just need to focus on not doing that. It's been a while and I don't have that pain anymore so I'm probably just more conditioned now.
