Started with dumbells, now progressed to the bar for squats and bench press. Only started 6 months ago, and really enjoying it. Hope to start deadlifting next. But taking baby steps as I have no fitness background whatsoever. Took me a long time to even add any weight to the Olympic bar, and even now I can't possibly even lift it over my head. That will be my next challenge after learning deadlifts. My squat is now 50kg and my bench press is 30kg. I do 5 sets of 5 reps. I aim to eventually follow the Starting Strength programme. I would love to hear from anyone else who is interested in barbell weightlifting in particular.
