I'd thoroughly recommend the free app MyFitnessPal. It will calculate how many calories you need to eat each day - don't exceed them and you will lose weight. You just have to log every mouthful of food - if you have a smartphone it's there with you - and you can even scan in barcodes. It's brilliant!

Hi BethanyMc, stay focused. You must have a reason why you want to eat healthy, whether it is for loved ones or yourself or whatever. Take a picture that reminds you or write your reasons out and put them somewhere prominent, like next to a mirror. So you see them everyday and are reminded why you are going for it. If it's that dress you want to wear then buy it and hang it on the wardrobe door so you can see it and have something to aim for. If you work then prepare your meals before hand at home to take with you. Don't take money to buy food as this can cause you to impulse buy, you think "well this mars bar and packet of crisps won't hurt", but that is the slippery slope. I don't take money to work at all then I can't buy sandwiches from the delivery van or raid the sweetie machine. So as much as you can remove the temptation.

It can be hard to eat with family or friends when they are tucking into big meals of fried or roast and you are eating a salad, but be strong and keep looking in your mirror and saying "I am doing this for ?????". It's hard and if you do slip it's not the end of the world, just recognise why and try to remove the cause, then get back on track.

Good luck.
