Ferritin

My ferritin level, although in range, is at the low end, whereas it used to be much higher in pre vegan days. Any history of others encountering this phenomenon?

Hi willsie

Mine was always low way before I became a Vegan and I'll be honest I don't know what it is now. I knew years ago as I used to give blood. I've not heard anyone have problems with Ferritin levels but I know protein can be a problem especially if you are following a low fodmap diet for IBS which I am. B12 of course is the biggest thing as you don't get that from a plant based diet.

I have low iron levels too and always have had. I now take B12 and iron sachets (spatone) as they are very good. Maybe you need to eat more iron. This might help...

Good plant sources of iron include lentils, chickpeas, beans, tofu, cashew nuts, chia seeds, ground linseed, hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds, kale, dried apricots and figs, raisins, quinoa and fortified breakfast cereal.

Just had B12 tested and it’s 416 ng/L in a range of 211 to 911. Doesn’t look too bad to me? I take the vegan societies multivitamin and now trying a Better You Iron spray.

I always top my Iron levels up with Spartone Liquid Iron and my vegan protein powder also contains Iron. Lots of dark green Veggies help, I add raw veggies to salads or smoothies as well

Best wishes
