What a programme on Channel 4, amazing. Natural farming with insects. It's a programme to watch on catch up if you're not watching it.

I watched this. Terrible situation but watching it unfold how this man explained it really brought it home. Humans really are messing up this planet for every species.

They certainly are. Unfortunately this is where my husband and me disagree, so glad I have my youngest daughter and her husband who agree with me regarding the planet.

What was very interesting though was the man that farmed fruit and vegetables using insects instead of awful pesticides to manage the ground. And of course the woodchippings as fertiliser.

Right now over 51% of UK land is used for farming animals. If more people consume non-CAFO animals then that will only increase, and exponentially. The maths simply does not add up. The UK simply does not have enough land to support pasture raised animals for every onmivore. This is why, under a pasture raised idealism we would need three planet earths to feed the existing population.

In terms of calories UK sheep provide just 1% of calorific needs for UK population. That is incredibly inneficient. Dairy cows are regularly fed feed that includes palm oil sources, thus directly destroying rainforest.

Of course cows should be fed organic grass. But cows, unlike sheep are not in on the land year-in-year out. Unlkke sheep, at least in the UK, they are always brought in over winter. What are they fed then?

If you watched the program it was a statement by the farmer that her cows eat feed including by that from palm sources. Some soy, mostly wheat & barley, but also palm.

If you want a PDF on the "importance" of palm in animal feed click here. mpob-pdas.my/pdf/PBAF.pdf
