VeganVille & Dirty Vegan on the BBC

There are a couple of vegan programs on the Beeb. veganville follows some vegans trying to convince merthyr tydfil to go vegan in the space of three weeks over three episodes. It's a reality show and that leaves a bit of a sour taste. It features Joey Carbstrong who has a reputation as one of the more agrressive animal rights activists. A big aspect of the programme is the setting of a welsh town relying on sheep for its income & life.

Thank you Andy for sharing. What I'm not keen on being a Vegan is when people try and force the Vegan issue as I don't think it's good at all for Veganism as if you get aggressive and go on about it all the time then people get put off.

I think a good way to get the message across is for people to read about how good it is for the planet and how healthy vegans are.

Trying to find a balance is a hard nut to crack. This is in part the theme of veganville, though I don't think it explored the issue as much as I would like.

What I find very diffidcult to accept is downright misinformation and worse. That need's to be called out for what it is.

On TV interviews often the animal activist is on their own against both TV journalists and "the balanced view" expert. One such was Joey on ITV's This morning a couple of days ago. Whilst he quoted real research twice, the expert came back with anecdotes. One simply cannot be compared with the other.

I totally agree, it's very difficult.

Misinformation is unacceptable, people need to know the facts and correct ones at that.

It's not good that the animal activist was on his own, he needed support not anecdotes.

I'm the only Vegan in the family and I'm very careful with what I say as I know with a couple of them would completely turn their back on any beliefs about Veganism if I tried to 'push' it in their face. That's not the way to do it.
