πŸŽ„ Planning for Christmas πŸŽ„

Hi everyone,

I think this looks delicious so I’m wondering whether it would be a good option for my Christmas lunch.

deliciouseveryday.com/mushr...

Phil makes a mean nut roast but as I have to be careful about eating too many nuts these days I think sadly it’s not going to be a viable option this year.

I like to think through some recipes for Christmas before it’s suddenly upon us so does anyone have any favourite recipes for Christmas for the main Christmas lunch or buffet style vegan food to have over the Christmas period.

We do not go in for Christmas in a big way with presents for each other etc so for us it’s all about time together and tasty food. Last year I found a lentil and beetroot recipe which was new and I loved it over Christmas to bring out with a selection of other bits and bobs to have in the evening. I also made a Black Forest gateau style dessert which was very nice and I enjoyed making it.

This year I have made pickled quince, beetroot and pickled onions so I am looking forward to having those as I’ve not made them before.

What do you have for Christmas as we can all swop and share recipes and ideas to inspire each other. If you do not celebrate Christmas it would still be good to get some of your favourite celebratory dishes.

Have a lovely day!

Hi Ali

You've actually made me think as I was wondering what to do. Although I have some nut loaf in the freezer and it tastes delicious I do think it can be quite dry, I know I can add gravy which I would do.

I've had a quick look online and really like the look of these two recipes so think I'll be making one of those, in the first one there's walnuts but you could easily leave them out.

I'm not big on Christmas, it's about the time you spend together and we would rather spend the money on going away with each other and not on presents. We do, of course, spoil the grandchildren as it is a child's time of year after all.

I thinking of the mushroom and lentil loaf albeit they both look good.

Alicia :)

I agree with you and it must be lovely to be able to treat the children. It’s what it’s all about.

I do like the look of the vegan meatloaf. I’ve very inconveniently gone off lentils lol what’s that about πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚

Thanks for the inspiration πŸ™‚πŸŒ±

It really is and Christmas is all about children.

Yes I like the look at the Vegan Meatloaf, recipe all printed off ready to make.

Weird you've gone off lentils, I love them. Our taste does change; I liked cabbage and spring greens when j was a child but don't like them now and I used to dislike asparagus but like it now, strange.πŸ€”

I think you’re right tastes do change a bit....Yes it’s odd as I like most things. It’s the puy lentils when they are hot I’ve gone off I’m ok with orange ones and I think I would like the puy ones in a salad still πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

They certainly do and I used to love cabbage, kale and spring greens but wouldn't entertain them now. I'm an orange lentils fan and use them in any veggie stew I make. Yes maybe if you do have them in a salad and they are cold you will be fine. :)

Well, on the 7th December my lovely friend Sue and I are going on this course: ourlizzy.com/christmas.php and I can't wait! Last year I made a delicious nut roast, because I think nut roast is a bit like a delicious stuffing (which from what I remember was the best bit of Christmas dinner anyway!) and it got loads of compliments from the meat eaters and the veggies round the table (I was the only vegan). I've been on an Our Lizzy course before; she's ace and I learned loads. She does B&B as well if you can't travel to hers in a day. She's right by a train station too.

Oh wow this looks impressive. Especially the cheese one as I’ve never had much success with vegan cheese.

It would be really good to have some feed back on your course. Lucky you. I hope you both enjoy it....What fun!

Yes I see what you mean about nut roast and stuffing. Stuffing is delicious. Ooh I’m feeling very ready for my Christmas dinner 😁🌱
