Dangers of GMO

This is an article I saw about GMO and I’ll warn you it doesn’t make pleasant reading. We have all heard the horrors associated with GMO but I thought I’d share this article for anyone else who is interested. Have a great day! Ali 🙂🌱

It's an interesting article, but I fear the person behind it, Jeffery M Smith, lacks credibility. He doesn't have any scientific background, and seems to be driven more by ideology.

I found a piece here on the methodology behind one of his claims:

Ohh h h . . . no o o o 😮. . . say it ain’t so, benwl . . . 😨 . . .😔 😥 🤭

Have just been listening to Jeffrey Smith ( en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jef... , responsibletechnology.org/ , foodrevolution.org/blog/gen... ) via this year’s "2019 Food Revolution Summit" ( healthunlocked.com/veganfoo... ).

For lay people (like myself), I’m inclined to trust presenters (moreso) from sources such as those from the Robbins’ Food Revolution Summits) without understanding the ”technical/ scientific/ medical …” validity & reliability of what’s being conveyed. [We simply haven’t the scientific background (training/ expertise nor time) to assess the quality/ accuracy of all of the information we’re hearing/ learning. We take at ‘face value’ what’s being shared. 🙈 🙉 🙊 ]

Appreciate the significance of continued critical thinking 🤔 & balanced ⚖️ viewpoints. 👍👍

The article "Anti-GMO former dance instructor Jeffrey Smith writes ‘scientific paper’ " ( allianceforscience.cornell.... ) is now in the balance ⚖️ being weighed alongside the article "Health Risks …" ( responsibletechnology.org/g... ).

Thank you, benwl. ☺️ 🙏 🍀 🌺 🌞

Things are rarely black and white. I'm sure Smith makes some very valid points about GMO, and the fact that he is strongly biased one way doesn't invalidate everything he says - but for me it means I'm going to look a lot harder for confirmation from other sources I trust more.

I think Robbin's have chosen some very good presenters but there are some I'd never trust (like the person who claims to get health advice from the spirit world).

One of my favorite sources of information are these people sciencebasedmedicine.org they are not pro-vegan but they are committed to rational thinking which I appreciate.

✔️ Have now added Science-Based Medicine ( sciencebasedmedicine.org/ ) alongside Quackwatch ( quackwatch.org/ ). [Thumbs up 👍 for rational, sound, logical thinking. Thank you for link, benwl. 🙏 Much appreciated. 😌 ]

✔️ Yes grey >🔲< area seems typical/ norm. Black ‘n white ⬛️⬜️ simplicity/ ‘certainty’ hard to come by . . . 🤔 🤦‍♂️

✔️ Yes, disappointed about AW* inclusion . . . 😔 [Guess 🤷‍♂️ he appeals to (‘speaks to’) folks who need to believe they’re receiving special information just for them? 🤷‍♀️ Dunno . . . ] Anyhoo, think it diminishes (undercuts, whittles away) the overall credibility of such summits when questionable ‘authorities/ experts’ participate? 🤔 😔 [Guessing/ speculating the Summit invites guests whom listeners show interest in or request? 🤔 (Dunno with any certainty, merely ‘thinking aloud speculation’. 🤷‍♀️ 🤦‍♂️ )]

* Old reply to follower asking opinion about AW (a few years back): "Just listened to A—— W—— 's 52-minute audio. Hmm... Interesting. He's saying it's not the body attacking itself (autoimmunity) but pathogens instead? Hmmm ... And, he's weaving in 'spirits' & 'seeing nodules on people's thyroids', etc. -- thus monicker 'Medical Medium'.

Hmm... don't know.

Just don't know what to make of it, #####. 🤔 [1 foot in 'woo-vile' 👻 ? 1 foot in 'science-land' 🔬 ? 😉] Like to remain open/ receptive to all concepts, but also like to exercise a healthy dose of 'clay-footed' 👣 reality.

Some things he says, I understand his line of reasoning (remaining years/ decades of our lives...). Some things, I question -- am 'healthily' (not 'cynically') sceptical of ('medium/ seeing spirit' aspect). 🤔 [Have difficulty determining the 'genuine/ sincere' from the 'charlatan and/or (self-) delusional', so thereby reserve judgment on.]

Just on the 1 listening it seems a combination of practical 'healthy' whole-foods advice (kale, spinach, greens, wild blueberries, apricots, cherries, asparagus, peas, chaga mushrooms, astragalus, chamomile tea, celery juice, ...) with 1 foot in 'woo-vile ' & 1 foot in 'science-land' or 'pseudo-science land' (?) 🙃 [Please pardon if 'plain speaking' is offensive; offence not intended. Merely trying clearly express my narrow 'opinion'.] Not well-versed enough in these things to separate 'fact' from 'fiction'; yet, the food recommendations he makes sound reasonable & align with whole, plant-based foods. 👍

Very interesting to me.

Yes, I'd love to hear what other members perspectives/ opinions 🗣🗣 are about A—— W—— "Medical Medium" if you choose to post it, #####. Lots of splendid brain power 🤓 🤓 (lovely folks) here in this forum. 🤗 . . . "

For me it is about reducing GMO structurally over the long term. I don't feel my body is being poisoned by it more than if I ate meat. Ideally I would like to eat organic all the time, but my purse won't stand the cost.

If society largely goes vegan then GMO will become a redundant technology. GMO is needed because we sacrifice so much land to pasture raised animals for food. GMO is for large crops such as soya & corn which are primarly fed to commercially raised animals. Going vegan removes both of these problems.

Hi Ali, a very interesting article and its very difficult as there's so much money invested in it so it has to be safe...🤢

I was shocked reading that Joni Mitchell amongst others had morgellons disease which manifests itself with tiny black fibres under the skin and protruding through itchy skin sores and patients were told it was imaginary:

Thank you for this Jerry. What a horrible disease and if you google it, it still says it’s imaginary! What a nasty disease. Just when you think you’ve heard it all.........Ali
