I understand addenbrooks in Cambridge has the best specialists. But it depends where you live and how poorly you are to travel? I also have CSS and was diagnosed just over a year ago. I am under the care of the rheumatologist consultant dr sultan at my local hospital which is Airedale in keighley west yorks and I asked my gp to refer me for a specialist opinion to dr Bruce in Manchester who was recommended by the addenbrooks team and I see him every six months - but could see him more often if things started to go wrong. Hope that helps and best of luck

Hi,

I have CSS. Diagnosed in 2008. I see Professor Raashid Luqmani at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Center (NOC) in Oxford. He is a world renowned Vasculitic specialist.

Hope this info is of some use to you. :-)

It all depends where you live in the UK ...some parts of the UK are excellent for diagnosing and treating Vasculitis ...especially WG CSS MPA... some sadly are not... some hospitals are very good and treating Vasculitis initially but the maintenance therapy (follow up treatment) has not been so good.

Addenbrookes is an excellent Vasculitis and Lupus centre and the doctors there will work with your local doctors and hospital to save on so much travelling.

Birmingham is also a centre for treating all types of Vasculitis, so is Liverpool. London has two hospital who also specialise in Vasculitis. Cardiff in South Wales also has a centre for treating some types of Vasculitis.

There are at least three excellent consultants in Scotland who we know who treat Vasculitis and they are not at the most well known hospitals in Scotland...

There are other smaller hospitals too..we have a list... Cheshire, Preston, Mancehester, Bradford, Sheffield etc...

hope this helps

Self referral is not easy to do Ken13 wherever you live.. The best way to ask for a referral is through your GP.... Dr Kluth is at Edinburgh, Dr Neil Basu is at Aberdeen there are others in Dundee Kirkcaldy and Glasgow. If you write a message to John or write him an email john.mills@vasculitis.org.uk he maybe able to help as VUK have a list of over 50 doctors who have a special interest in Vasculitis.

All the best

Susan
