I have HUVs. my twin doesn't have it but they think my daughter may inherit it. It has been known to be in families before. Incidentally, my son is fine.

It isn't thought that autoimmune disorders are genetic in the same way as some illnesses like muscular dystrophy or coeliac disease but the tendency to be affected has a genetic link - and if you are unlucky it could be the same form you develop. When the immune system goes wrong it attacks different people in different ways and the label you are given depends on the constellation of symptoms you display.

My mum had urticaria when younger, she now has fibromyalgia, her sister has lupus, I had urticaria long time ago, my eldest son has urticaria now (brought on with contact to water) and I've now been diagnosed with GPA and poss lupus. My mum, brother, myself and another aunt all have underactive thyroid too.
