In the UK many of us are treated by a rheumatologist initially, and then by other specialists as we need them. For instance kidney or heart specialists. In the States both the John Hopkins Hospital, and the Mayo clinic have useful sections about vasculitis on their web sites. Perhaps one of them would be able to give you advice? I do hope you can find someone you trust soon.

that is really too bad as when you get a good doc you really want to hang on. Best of luck the last reply has the best info and i have looked at both their websites too very useful.

Good Luck and it will be interesting to know who and where they send you in the States so please let us know

Hi, I'm in the UK but have HUVS and am currently treated by a Rheumatologist.

As you probably know HUVS is a bit rare and like some of the other rare types of Vasculitis this can make it tricky to find clinicians in your area who are familiar with the disease. My Rheumy doesn't really know HUVS but I suspect that once you've got your diagnosis and if you're in remission then they just need to monitor you for flares and give advice regarding infections etc.

Personally I want a clinician (or small team of clinicians) that I feel will work with me on my disease. If they listen and include me in decisions around treatment, drugs etc then I'm happy.

Just one final thing. Since HUVS is quite similar to Lupus then you might find that a Rheumy who specialises in SLE would be another option.

All the best in your search,

Richard.
