I have various painful experiences which tend to occur in clusters ie. pain in that area will occur repeatedly for a period of time then stop, sometimes reoccurring at another time. This has included severe pain in the outer ear which feels like it has got extremely cold and then started to warm up (has occurred in summer so not the cause, even with our summers!).

I have also had audio hallucinations (electrical spark sound, phone ringing) when settling to sleep and waking but have thought these noises could be standard experiences. I have been diagnosed with CNS vasculitus.

Yes, I get pain in my right outer ear when I sleep on it. Not so much in the left one? It happens in the second half of the night, but I thought it was caused by my lying on the pillow sleeper of my radio. I switch on at some point in the night, listen for an hour or so, then go back to sleep before I detach the speaker! Do you also get flashing lights whenever you turn over?

I don't get the flashing lights.

But the ache in the outer ear is the one that wakes me. It also feels like the blood has drained from it, and I have to wait from the blood to return before the ache stops .
