I suffer from a number of issues with my feet. Numb (they can feel quite cold, yet are very hot to the touch), painful (I have a number of lumps that have appeared and they are incredibly painful), at times my feet can feel like they are burning, painful and extremely itchy. Yet the soles of my feet are so sensitive that even I cannot touch or rub them !!

I voted other as I have all of the above to varying degrees at different times and could not single out one.

Diagnosis Mononeuritis multiplex

Having peripheral neuropathy in both feet and up one leg, I have most of what you asked.

Feet hot to touch yet feel really cold, nearest I can say to people is walk around in snow bare footed for fifteen minutes them come inside, that feeling of intense pain when you don't know if burning and painful with the hot or cold. Also numbness with very high sensory feeling, so easy to trip and lose balance, yet constantly aware of tingling in an unpleasant fashion as if your feet are wrapped in florists clear wrap or someone has put grit in your shoes. Also my ankles and feet do get swollen if been on my feet all day, which just adds to the whole feet experience.......................now lets talk about hands.............

I have foot drop and numbness in equal measure. I suffer from "burning" sensations from time to time. But my main problem is that my feet have changed shape..the one with foot drop is larger than the other!! and I need special shoes with a supportive insole..provided on the NHS.

I experience all of what is listed. Depending on what I am doing or have done on any day, one or more could be most appropriate. However, as foot drop in my left leg is a constant and gradually increases with distance walked, accompanied with increasing leg ache (groin area) and general discomfort, I would chose this as the MOST I suffer.

I voted "other". Before I was diagnosed with W. G. I was told by the foot consultant at the local hospital that I have a Moreton's Nueroma in my left foot. I believe this is when there is a damaged nerve between the 2nd & 3rd toe. I also have a fallen arch below my toes in the same foot. The fat pad under this arch has also thinned and so it is painful to walk on it.

I have orthotics (specially made insoles) for both feet from the local hospital which make it possible for me to walk with minimal discomfort. It had become too painful to do so before I had them. I have to buy sensible shoes which have a removable insole and so have space for the orthotics. Trainers are the most comfortable. My feet get very hot/cold and sweaty with the orthotics which are "plasticy" so I keep changing my socks! But I can walk around the house and short distances outside without too much discomfort so I am very pleased to have them.

The orthotics are renewed free of charge yearly and are supposed to last a lifetime. I have 2 pairs at the moment.

Apart from the above I have numbness in my heels which is bothersome when I lie on my back but is gradually improving. Tests have shown that there is no damage to my leg nerves from the WG

My leg muscles ache a lot at times but that is definitely the WG.

I have had wg for the last 17 years. But the he last 2years have been hell with my feet.

Have been telling docs, and like many it has been passed over.

I mentioned it again on last vist to hos and they have now sent me for an X-ray.

Blood test all ok so the docs don't think about looking any further.

Go phone to say I have a vascular necrosis. Now waiting for an appointment to see consultant.

I've had WG for just over two years. Really very painful when I stand still for long periods. Painful, but manageable, when I walk. Also have 'burning' feet sometimes. Occasional cramp in legs and feet.

I have systemic rheumatoid vasculitis. The area in my feet that is most affected is the tibiotalar joint where the tibia (shin bone) is supported on the talus bone causing pain and discomfiture in that area. In addition to this the L5 and S1 nerve routes are also affected causing numbness on the anterior surface of the feet, the outer edge of the feet and also the motor nerve on the first phalange in my right foot which has slight foot drop. Although I can walk I sometimes find it difficult. This varies on a day to day basis with some good days and some bad days. Like Jacqui I find it painful if I have to stand for long periods.

I suffer from most of those conditions at different time - burning, numb, tender and painful feet. Initially I had foot drop and they are all caused by nerve damage due to Churg Strauus

I have put other as my feet most often feel like I am walking on broken glass but I have also experienced all the ones listed. Along with painful r ankle and calf. I too have been diagnosed with monoplexus neuritis in the past.

I suffer with sharp stinging pains in the soles of my feet but at the same time they are numb. I know that sounds like a contradiction.

I suffer with numbness and pins and needles as well as very cold feet. I ticked tender because that;s the overriding sensation but the other apply all the time as well.

I would say "other". My feet feel like they are squashed together like the feeling you get when you've had new shoes on and you take them off but the feeling stays there. Also feels like it's walking on bare bone as if there is no padding to support them or feels like walking on pebbles. I was told that there is no fat in my feet and this is why it feels like this and that I also have flat feet! Never been like this before I became ill but became more problematic after I had my 1st IV. They are now saying I have Planter Fasciatis(sorry bout spelling) and had gel insoles and another type of insole but nothing works, Phsyio gave me stretching excersises but even that hasn't helped. Just wish they would recognise that we do suffer from this regardless of which type of Vasculitis your DX with.

Ticked 'other'. Mostly cramps in my feet....any time, but worse during the night.

I ticked other because I have a few symptoms in my feet too. I have burning and stinging in my calf muscles then get a rash which goes but the burning feeling stays. Swollen ankles. Outside of heels are numb but also burns then turns to pins and needles. Before the steroids it felt like I was being electrocuted getting shocks especially at night. Before being diagnosed with WG my doctor said it was plantar fasciiatis and physio said the electric shocks were from trapped nerves. My feet hurt all the time and get worse at night especially in bed. It is strange they are burning but my feet are actually cold. I cannot walk far as the pain in my feet hurt even standing too. I notice that other people have this too.

I suffer from peripherol neuropathy in my left foot and find it difficult to wear normal shoe's, in my right foot I suffer with numbness in my big toe and pins and needle's in the ends of my toes. When I walk I get sharp pains going up through my feet, and it stops me in my tracks.

How interesting my daughter has been suffering with her feet for a while now. Spoke to GP who said it was the shoes she was wearing !!! I have now pushed them to refer her to a foot specialist (as advised by her heart nurse). We shall wait and see !!!!!

I have numdness, pins and needles, very cold feet, cant wear anything on the heel, shoes are sore to wear, cant stand having my feet on anything and have to hang them out of the bed, Dr said nothing they can do, it is nerve damage because of WG and it might come back but cant say.

I live in South Africa - have WG for almost a year now. Also suffer from all symptoms referred to in above replies. What has surprised me of late is that the soles of my feet have become ultra sensitive and a swelling has developed, not of the feet, just the soles. The soles are distinctly red and swollen. Walking is now all of sudden extremely difficult - excrutiatingly painfull. I wear gel insoles and thick diabetic socks to make walking bearable. I cant understand why this has suddenly developed - could it be due to a reduction in dose of preds? I am on 5 mg a day - was on 10 mg. Any comment?

I have been suffering from 'cold' feet for sometime on occasional days , but had assumed (wrongly) that it was due to diabetes related neuropathy, even though my blood sugar control is excellent, so neuropathy should not be a problem.

When I remove my shoes & socks, my feet feel warm, not cold, and then they start to warm up. So most days i walk around in bare feet which is the most comfortable .. how strange is that?

sanah profile image
sanah in reply toJontyW

By the end of the day of wearing socks, my feet start to feel very cold. And when I take my socks off my feet start to warm up again. I don't understand why that happens. When I tell people that my feet start feeling cold after wearing socks for a couple of hours they think I'm weird.

If anyone knows why my feet gets cold then please let me know. Any insight will be helpful. Thanks :-)

I have Behcets disease and my feet always hurt. My ankles and small bones in the midfoot section always feel tender. I wear mostly orthotic style flip-flops (thongs to us Ozzies) If I wear shoes which cause any squishing of my feet its off with the shoes and on with the thongs. I wear diabetes shoes if I have to wear anything (the most stylish one I can find as i'm not an old lady yet!) Alternatively good wide supportive running shoes such as Gel Asics. I haven't found any pain killer that work sorry.

It's inflammatory arthritis - it's part and parcel.
