nuclear medicine appointment for scan

Ihave to have a scan of thyroid / parathyroid. An injection of radioactive substance required. I have told consultant that I have mastocytosis. They say it is safe.

Does anyone have experience of this type of diagnostic scan? Apart from the usual being prepared for allergic reaction, I justvwondered if anyone has other wisdom to impart?

As said on the other thread, my contrast CT wasn't radioactive as I thought... I haven't heard of people reacting to the radioactive substance, altho it'll likely come together with excipients. I spose I'd do it, like I don't regret the contrast CT despite at least a week of trouble. Keep us posted!

Thank you., JayCeon

I guess I am just anxious, as I have been seen by so many departments of various hospitals in past few weeks and experienced the different sorts of scanning machines. Anxiety is due to the wait for all of the various specialists to come up with a treatment plan. I already know I have mastocytosis, and the scan with radioactive substance has been sprung on me by surprise, fo a different condition. I thought I was having a simple ultrasound scan. It helps to know, in advance, what to expect. It doesn’t help to have to explain madtocytosis, to a clinician who will be caring for me, as they had never heard of it.

Planning some duvet days to follow, and of course will have my rescue meds with me when I have the scan appointment.

Just to update. Had scan . Radioactive substance was fine, no problems at all.

Thanks! - Excellent it was fine, good to know!

(Please update if you will if side effects come later, like me the contrast started the day after.)
