I've never met anyone with Tics and at times i feel like I'm the only one . Sometimes it feels like I can't relate to anyone.

Hi,

I have had Add/ADHD/Tourettes since childhood. I am now 70. I was diagnosed with PD about 5 years ago. I could not understand the connection as they seem to be opposites chemically Thanks to the internet, especially this board, I am able to do research not possible before.

I took the 23 & me test and I have the LRRK2 (parkinsons) gene.

Of course it's too new and they are just doing research, but I am inclined to believe that most of the human condition emanates from the gut.

I couldn't understand before how all these conditions could be in one person. A few years ago I found an article with a reference to a "tourettes spectrum" speculating how they all relate to each other.

Now the gut Biome is considered the source.

About 12 years ago I had Diverticulitis (like appendicitis, but in the colon. It burst resulting in removal of a foot of colon, wearing a bag three months, and being re connected.

Within a year, I started having pains in many joints, tested for 'myalgias, etc with no luck. Then, I developed terrible bitching, but like in a neuropathic pattern (hands and feet. I've had that for years.

Finally, I started to shake, not like Tourettes, I had a DATscan and here we are.

Still wondering about the Add/Tourettes, about 3 months ago, I was listening to a podcast with a doctor discussing Colostrum (comes from mother's breast 1st day after birth before milk comes) It seems Colostrum feeds the Biome, not the baby. Now here is the theory, if baby doesn't get good Colostrum, it can screw with the Flora in the gut (IE, not being breast fed, receiving antibiotics, if the mother has alcohol or narcotics in system ,anything affects that Biome.)

So hearing that, I had an AH HA moment. I've been told I had a Forceps birth, which was common then. They nicked my neck during delivery. Antibiotic was put on the nick. Neither was I breast fed. My theory is that is what caused the ADD/Tourettes.

Far fetched, but does Empirically make sense.

Anyway, that is my story.

I posted here maybe a year or so as you did, resulting in no response.

What if I'm right and these were two separate events? That would explain why it is so unusual to have both.

One last thought for the board.

What if the preponderance of Parkinson's and other brain conditions in boxers, football players and other sports (forgetting concussions) were from getting hit in the gut, which can result in gut leakage going to the brain?

Hi, can I please suggest that you contact Emma Myers from Tourettes Action. Emma is the Services and volunteer manager and she is in touch with lots of people in the London area. You can email her: emma@tourettes-action.org.uk There used to be a really big London Support group for the Tourette community but unfortunately it stopped operating last year, however Emma may well be able to put you in touch with individuals.

Best wishes

Helen
