Spikes with Pregabalin

Hi

I started taking Pregabalin for nerve pain and I had previously started Melatonin a couple of days before which I was given to help me sleep because the nerve pain was keeping me awake. I only took about 5 x tablet of Melatonin in total and only 5 x Pregabalin 25 mgs (lowest dose available) and after just 2 days, the T has spiked really badly, I honestly don’t think I have ever known it so loud (I’m very new to this, just 4 months in)

I did check with doctors as best I could that it was ok to take both these medications together. One said very rare to get increase with Pregabalin and the other said very rare to get increase with Melatonin. But both thought it was ok to take together. I also did my homework as best as possible on the internet.

It’s frustrating because I took Pregabalin over Amitriptyline because of the problems others have had with Amitriptyline. I have taken it at very low dose with no adverse effects.

I’m hoping that I’ve taken so little that it isn’t a long term problem.

Has anyone else experienced problems with either Pregabalin or Melatonin or both taken together?

Many thanks for reading. Lilliecat

Good morning

I’ve had nerve problems, peripheral neuropathy, for very many years, and have been taking a low dose of Amitryptyline and a larger dose of Pregablin to assist with the sleep problems which are caused by PN. Tinnitus came along 3/4 years ago and is unlikely to be linked because of the length of time between the onset of both conditions.

I also take Melatonin which has really helped my efforts to overcome sleep deprivation resulting from both T and PN.

My Tinnitus is under control at the moment, and I’ve learnt not to overreact when spikes occur.

Best wishes

Thank you for your reply. I do have some melatonin but I’m quite adverse to taking meds if I don’t need to. I’m back taking a very low dose of Amitriptyline but may swap it for melatonin in the future.

Thank you for your reply. I’m back taking a very low dose of Amitriptyline and may swap this for melatonin in the future if I can get the nerve discomfort under control.

I take Melatonin 3mg, if I take a higher dosage, it has the opposite effect, it keeps me awake. Last summer I was at my daughter's place and asked her for a pill I forgot mine, she uses those of 10 mg. I could not understand why I could not sleep. Once back home, I took my usual 3mg and slept well, being back in my bed was surely why I thought. A week later I took by mistaske 2 pills of 3mg and I could not sleep. After research, I learned that a larger dosage is not for everyone, not for me, anyways, I told this to my daughter and she tried to cut her pill into 2 and had less tiredness in the morning.

That’s very interesting re dose of Melatonin. I have taken it for a few nights before but I didn’t particularly like the way it made me feel but then I don’t like anything that makes me feel ‘knocked off’. I know that sounds ridiculous because these drugs are meant to help with sleep but for some reason I find myself fighting it and I don’t think it’s a very helpful attitude to have.

I’m having the horrible side effect from the Amitriptyline of feeling anxious/agitated, I hope it passes quickly, if not I will have to take the melatonin.

Thank you for your input.
