Benzodiazepines

HelloI'd like to ask what experiences people with tinnitus/hyperacusis as my husband has, with taking Benzodiazepines

My husbands ENT consultant said Diazepam would help and to start with it did calm things down, but recently his tinnitus has got worse and had vertigo which he didn't have on them. He doesn't suffer with anxiety, he's fustrated and irritated and is waiting for special bone test as CT scan has showed possible problem with inner ear bone, but has been told his condition may just be down to anxiety which is a cop out in my opinion

Thanks for listening

Diazepam is only a stopgap. If you come to depend on them it's awful. I know this from personal experience.

Hi Ray Yes I agree wasn't happy him being on them ....it seems medical people put blame on tinnitus/hyperacusis on anxiety a lot of the time.

I can see why, Spinach. Severe anxiety / stress will bring tinnitus on, so it appears to medical types that treating that cause is a valid approach to established tinnitus. What they don't realise is once tinnitus has walked through your front door, that option is no longer available.

A lot of Doctors won't prescribe Diazepam & mine won't for my Tinnitus. My doctor has given me Clonazepam instead of Diazepam. Clonazepam is often recommended a lot as well, for me, I am looking at upping the dosage to 1mg a day, as it isn't making much difference to my tinnitus, it calms the brain a little bit & helps me sleep better, but, then drugs work better for others than some people, in some ways you need to keep trying different medications.
