there are many ways to help yourself and clearly you are doing the right thing by mostly ignoring it. About one in ten or more people have tinnitus so if there was a “cure” you’d have heard about it! Don’t go searching … you will see a lot advertised.

If you haven’t already, the website of Tinnitus UK is a great source of information. Sadly, many GP’s can be dismissive as they know it can’t be helped by prescribing a pill. But not all.

One of the best ways was to cope with tinnitus when you want to relax is through sound masking and distraction. Playing natural sounds such as rain, waves and birdsong can help relax you and push the tinnitus to the back of your mind. Depending on your tinnitus, some sounds can temporarily reduce your tinnitus - high-pitched birdsong does this for me. You can buy small sound machines to generate a variety of sounds but I think there are phone apps to do this too.

Is your tinnitus a high pitched sound? Cricket sounds help me.

Mine is high-pitched. It started very high twenty-odd years ago but nowadays I have a wider range of frequencies, and it is more noise-like and hissy.

Cricket sounds, following by tambour dryer and a buzzing

I agree with what has already been written here. There is no cure for tinnitus so please don't believe people who offer you a miracle cure. Research is ongoing but not enough. Some people cope by keeping busy, which is what I do. It doesn't have to be loud, just engaged, so even a good book will send it to the background. Others use different masking sounds.

If you have hearing loss as well it's worth getting your hearing tested; you could be described hearing aids with the ability to mask tinnitus sounds.

Others have had some success with Cognitive Behaviour Therapy or Behaviour Modification.

I hope you find something that helps YOU.

I've had T for longer than that, and I always hated when there wasn't enough noise around and I became aware of it. I recently figured out, in meditation, which I only recently started, that I don't have to react badly to it. In fact, at this point, maybe just for now, it reminds me of the meditative state I was in and actually makes me a little happy.
