Hello, euge200.

The BNF - British National Formularly - website is a guide for prescription medication aimed at the public but moreso at medical personnel.

In the list of side effects for amitriptyline hydrochloride listed on the site - bnf.nice.org.uk/drugs/amitr... - tinnitus is listed in the 'frequency not known' section, which suggests that whilst some people have raised concerns about this medication being linked with the onset of tinnitus, the case reports are limited in number and might be considered outliers. Without more data to go on, it's hard to tell.

In relation to tinnitus, amitryptyline has been used to treat depression - what might be termed lower-level depressive illness or anxiety sometimes respond well to this medication and can mitigate symptoms of it, which could include intensified attention to and frustration to issues like phantom sounds like tinnitus.

This would be one to pick up with your GP when you are able to see them - we can't give direct advice on medication unfortunately, and your doctor is more familiar with the reasons they have prescribed this medication to you.
