I have T as a high pitched hiss predominantly in left ear and some odd but I think connected head and jaw issues. I've probably habitulised pretty well.
Early on with my T done sounds, plates being stacked or cellophane being peirced were uncomfortable but that has gone away in the main.
What does seem to make my T worse is fluorescent lighting. I generally work from home but have been in offices for last 3 days and T is spilikg. Also supermarkets can cause this
Perhaps its just the nosier environment in general thinking about it but I'd be interested if anyone else has anything similar

sometimes I notice this when I am at work. I pick up on the lighting but also the hum that they emanate is also appears to be a trigger. If I can move away so the ‘hum’ is less pronounced, it is easier to tolerate but then sometimes there is just no escape. I am not sure whether it’s my ears sensitivity that picks up the hum or of the hum is louder so my ears pick up on it. Either way on the days I notice it, they always become bad T days.
This does make sense actually because my eyes do not like certain lighting especially fluorescent lighting. I find can be quite stressful… since we all know that tinnitus is greatly increased with our stress , I think there’s your answer.
Hi RobWG,I've had T for 15 years. I have never been around noises without hearing protection. I even put some on when the gardeners come around. I've never had an accident or incident where my hearing was compromised. May I ask, at work are you around many business machines especially computers?
We forget how insidious and at the same time innocent they might seem. I have been around computers since just after the Internet became alive! I have never been a day being around them. I've been around 300-500 servers in a complex, and never thought about them much, but each hard drive puts out a pitch/frequency that can break a rock if confined close enough. I have a gaming PC and 17 external HDs. Getting what I'm saying. At least for me my tinnitus is caused by the sound coming from those drives. My T sound is high pitched electrical whine. Seems worse at night. It's as if what's in my head is trying to communicate with the HD's which are switched off!
IDK...just thought I'd put that out there. 24/7 for last 15 years. It can still become a nuisance when I'm stressed & anxious but I'm getting those under control and when I'm not stressed my IBS is almost non-existent. I've made friends with my T and we co-exist.
Hi RobWG, my T is in some ways connected to my jaw. When I move my jaw certain ways it increases the volume. Sometimes painfully loud. My specialist couldn't work this out. I just found what you wrote about the jaw connection interesting.
Bet there is. The trouble is, in my experience, no-one will acknowledge it. I trust my own judgement, You know your own body. Keep the pressure up, I am.
