Hi,

Is it safe to wear ear buds at night, playing low soft music or should this be avoided?

Thanks

Nick

There's no evidence that you have to avoid headphones or earbuds if you have tinnitus.

Someone experiencing tinnitus may want to exercise caution in the volume level they listen to music at - quieter is better - and some anecdotal accounts suggest that blocking the ear canal makes it more difficult to hear external sounds which are helpful for tinnitus habituation.

Being able to listen to relaxing music, at a low volume level, helps a lot of people with their tinnitus. Alternatives to headphones, if that is a sticking point for anyone reading, include pillows with speakers built in - sleepypeople.com/soundasleep/

I'm not going to enter into a back-and-forth discussion on this, save to say if you can provide some evidence to support your assertions, we can have a follow-on chat from it.

Baldly stating an opinion and providing no information to support it is not helpful or informative to the original poster.

Hi Nick2175

I think that used with caution, and I am sure you don't want a loud noise all night, they are fine. I am looking for some because the SleepBand type (excellent at they are for some people), don't work for me. I need the sound to be in my ear canal.

The problem is that (as I understand it, and there are various reviews on YouTube), there isn't really a good pair for side sleepers at the moment. Bose were, apparently, expensive but good for many people - they have been discontinued. There does not seem to be anything truly comparable on the market (certainly not the much-hyped Kokoon). I am happy to be corrected.

My understanding on Kokoon is that they're making a product in collaboration with Phillips - this is a recent review of the Kokoon Nightbuds sleep headphones from last year for anyone interested in what they offer.

Thanks Pat,

I may have been unfair to Kokoon. I do see reviews / YouTubes by people who get benefit from them, but the control unit and the connecting strap between that and the earbuds don't look good to me. I am going to break them, I just know it. I will keep an eye on developments.

That is the element of the design which I query too - you're definitely not alone there!

I don't know the answer to wearing at bedtime. The audiologist told me to use musician ear plugs to a loud concert.

Hi i recently purchased some bone conduction ear phones, very light and placed above the ears, wear them at night when i have to, i.e, last night, am pleased with them so far and any music/sounds doesnt disturb my husband,

I have an adapter plug I bought online at Amazon that cuts the power of after 1 or 2 hours. Would suggest using that with your audio source rather than having it going for the whole nights sleep.
