I had exactly the same. I’m afraid I gave up with mine (NHS) and I only use them now if I’m in a situation where I must hear what’s being said such as with a doctor.

it would surely be worth persevering with the aids. The audiologist will have explained that you have to have time to get used to them. As for the pain - I don’t know.

Tinnitus- have a look at the British Tinnitus Association website

Hi, It took me 6 months to get used to wearing NHS hearing aids, I didn`t getting any pain, just itchy ears but slowly the more I used them I got used to wearing them. Also when I take them out my Tinnitus seems louder but is that just my brain telling me this.

Hi Leedsunt 1

I think you're witnessing hearing aids working as intended - when worn, they mitigate tinnitus and help with problems like hearing loss. When they're taken out, it's not quite as sudden as an on/off switch, but it's much easier to notice the problems which are being taken care of in part by hearing aids.

Hi Leedsunt1 I'm sorry. I have the same problem. Unsure what the answer is. I need to wear HAs but I've yet to do so pain free. I've tried once with a private audiologist and once with an NHS audiologist. Trying again next year .

Hi, It sounds like you're experiencing quite a challenge with tinnitus. It's great that the hearing aids are helping to tone it down during use. However, the worsening and pain in both ears when you remove them might indicate that the hearing aids are offering some relief by masking the tinnitus. I would recommend consulting an audiologist for further evaluation and considering other tinnitus management options, like sound therapies or relaxation techniques. Remember, a thorough hearing test ( hearingsolutions.ca/locatio... ) can help identify the best approach for your specific situation. Take care!
