I am 52 years old female and had tinnitus for the past year. Can it be linked to hormonal changes?

Yes, most definitely. Lack of estrogen is linked to tinnitus in women. Ask your doctor for HRT.

I'm hesitant to take HRT . Have you taken it and noticed a reduction in your T?

it seems to me that tinnitus will grab hold of you if there is the slightest thing going on. And try to punish you.

Hi there. It may well be. My T increased two years ago. ENT put it down to hearing loss but it was also at the onset of the perimenopause. I've often wondered if there's a link.

Tinnitus is common in peri-menopause and in thyroid conditions, medications can cause Tinnitus, lots of things can cause it. Stress etc, but finding the cause is a minefield.

it is always difficult to pinpoint the cause of Tinnitus however it is listed as a symptom of the menopause, some ladies have found relief with a low dose Eostrogen

Hello there... Very interesting to talk to you, as I am also a 52 year old female and have had tinnitus for almost 1 year. Like you, I have also been wondering about the hormone connection. Could you tell me what your tinnitus is like? My tinnitus is more of a hissing sound than a ringing, with occasional fullness in my left ear like a plugged sensation. I have been to an audiologist who says that I have some mild hearing loss, but that my eustachian tubes are fine (no fluid or anything in there). She didn't really offer me any help with the tinnitus, so I went online to research it myself and found some videos on YouTube that have kept me sane. I have basically learned to cope by using sound therapy. I don't want to take HRT as a relative of mine had a bad experience with it. I have also read that a side effect of HRT can be tinnitus, so I certainly don't want it to get worse! Have you found anything that has helped you? If this is hormonal, I wonder if it will go away after a while? :)

Hello.. I have been on hrt for almost 2 years, however, like you, I have read that hrt can cause tinnitus. I am tempted to try not taking it if it would help with the tinnitus, however, would probably see the return of peri menopause symptoms! Hard to know what to do for the best. My tinnitus varies from vibration noise up high pitched hissing. It varies throughout the month. I do regularly feel as though my ears need to pop as if I’ve been flying. I too, have had hearing tests etc and now been referred for sound therapy. Hoping this may help!
