Early morning tinnitus
I took betahistine many years ago when my tinnitus started but it didn't have any effect and I no longer take it. It apparently improves blood flow to the inner ear, so I guess it will only help your tinnitus if the root cause is poor blood flow, but I'm no expert. You shouldn't stop taking any medication without first consulting your GP. You need to be weaned off some medications.
Hi, I also took Betahistine for around 6 months, it was for the vertigo attacks I had and also the tinnitus, I requested I stopped taking them as I didn’t notice any difference in the vertigo and tinnitus, after a few days of not taking them the tinnitus ramped up big time so I rang my Doctors and spoke to a ENT doctor who happened to be there, he told me that Betahistine should not be taken for more than 3 months at a time and it can increase the tinnitus, also I could start taking them again when I thought the vertigo started up again ( which it never and still hasn’t gone away) I haven’t taken them since but as my tinnitus is so bad and loud at the moment I am considering starting them up again as like you am wondering if they did help after all.
I hope your tinnitus quietens down soon
Best wishes .
yes. I’ve been taking it for 5 years. When I stop it, T differs but I don’t like it. It doesn’t mean that betahistine has improved my condition, but with it it’s more sufferable. 😅🥰
I've been taking betahistine for about a year for Menieres Disease. I've had no significant episodes since.
I’ve been taking Betahistine about 18 months now. ENT prescribed 8mg x 3 per day and it made very little difference to my tinnitus/fluctuating hearing (right ear). However when I saw ENT about 6 months ago he suggested gradually moving up to 16mg x 3 per day if I could tolerate that level. I’m nearly there, slight improvement but not great. He says Betahistine is the only one for tinnitus, the next move up is to have intratympatic steroid drops in ear. Not sure about that yet. I’ve known of some people that have benefitted from Betahistine. He did say that although it may not feel that it’s helping much, it may be worse to come off it.
Hello Flints1955 I have used betahistine and unfortunately it did nothing for my tinnitus. I blame the COVID vaccine for this. Physician cannot prove, but new studies have discovered that there is a potential link. I stopped betahistine and found that white noise helped. Over time the tinnitus went away. Was a very unpleasant experience.
hi, thanks for your comment. My tinnitus started after the booster vacine.it's usually a fizz in the background but was very loud for weeks at first. Dare not have anymore.
