Hello everyone. I've been asked to go back to ENT several months after my scan. I rang the ENT sec and asked her if it was bad news. She wouldn't say. Has anyone else been asked to go back? If so why? I'm trying to keep an open mind. Thanks.

hi there again , I wonder if your GP has got any letters through about your files . How do you feel in yourself are you quite well apart from our obvious discomfort with T. Maybe it’s just routine . Let us know how you get on . Thinking about you and your very kind to us on here. Love from Penny & poodles 😂

I'm OK thanks Penny. You're right. Maybe it's just routine. I was surprised when I got a text and not a letter . How are you? I expect those little rascals are keeping you on your toes. Give them a big kiss from me.

Yes. They are rascals indeed. I cope with them most of the time but I do get really tired at times and have to push myself to go out for these longish walks. Let me know how you get on , and what it is they want to see you about.

Surely if it was urgent they would have contacted you before now?

Wish you good luck 🌹

In the summer I had MRI followed by letter saying it didn't reveal anything untoward and goodbye. Last week I had an sms notifying me of a video appointment. That was unexpected. I suspected a scam even! North Midlands at Stoke out of area too. It's next week.

doglover1973 in reply to Oysterseeker

Hi Oyster . Yes. I thought it must be a scam so I rang the hospital and they confirmed it. I hope your video appt goes well next week. Let us know what happens!

Hi doglovet1973 I echo Happyrosie's sentiments you write to other posts giving compassionat, sensible and emphatic replies. Others get much reassurance from your replies and that helps enormously.

What would you write to someone with your same question? I'm sure it would be reassuring and would include words of wisdom too!! Sending my thoughts and prayers too.

Aww. Thanks Pink. I would say keep calm and have a stiff drink - if need be 🍸How's your T? Any more ups & downs? Or has it settled?

So glad you're getting reassuring replies from the good people on this forum Doglover1973. I'm sure that they have provided comfort in this time of need. My T is OK, just up and down. It's great today (ie no noise just light fuzzy but soft and quiet). Yesterday, it was like a sissing sound. I hope your appointment goes well. Please let us know how you get on.

Hi Doglover1973, I was called back when I had a CT scan , they needed to give me another test using a dye which gives them a clearer picture, this was several years ago now when things were running smoothly with the nhs unlike now where there is such a back log of work, I also wasn’t told what was wrong over the phone which doesn’t help, my scan was ok and I hope yours will be too, if it was anything serious they would have contacted you by now as Linley said.

Thinking of you and best wishes.

doglover1973 profile image
doglover1973 in reply to Yoga62

Thanks Yoga. That's very reassuring. I didn't have the dye the first time so it may well be just a repeat scan with the dye. So glad yours was OK. How are you?

If anything suspect had shown up in your previous scan, I'm sure they would have got back to you well before now, probably immediately after the results had been examined. And I doubt that they are asking you back for another MRI scan with the contrast dye - if they were going to use this, they would ask for a blood test first to ensure that you'd be OK with the dye. Depending on the symptoms you presented and discussed in your previous consultation, this may well be a follow-up discussion.

I get similarly vague 'template' letters from my local hospital about appointments - the only thing I know is which department it is with and not what it is for. You'd think that a health service would be sensitive to the anxiety that such impersonal communications can cause.

Thank you Friday. Yes. I think the NHS could take a little more care with letters and texts. I’ve had a blood test to check if I can have contrast dye - before the first scan - but there was no feed back. The radiographer didn’t mention it and I didn’t think to ask until it was all over .

I don't think you can read anything into not being told over the phone. I think that is policy everywhere. I have got so I don't even ask. Just try to keep on doing what you would normally do. I agree that were it serious they would (or at least) should have been in touch sooner.

doglover1973 profile image
doglover1973 in reply to PABLR

Thanks PABLR I hope so but I don't know why they would ask to see me. The last thing the ENT doc said to me was 'Don't worry. I'm sure it will be fine. I'll write to you' .

My husband had to wait weeks before his xray results were back to his doctor so it may be something similar. Try not to worry- easier said than done I know

Thank you poppyb62 It's not easy - as you say. I hope your husband got good news.

Good luck doglover1973 You're so kind and helpful on here. Hope it is ok and not anything to worry about. Linds xx

Thanks Fuzzy 🙂 I was in a bit of panic when I got the text but better now. Only three days to go. I know you've got one sided deafness too and they didn't find a reason so may be it will be the same for me. How are you?

in reply to doglover1973

I'm ok, thanks. Aside from a recent unproductive ENT appointment where the consultant just repeated that he doesn't know if I'm experiencing vestibular migraine or endolymph hydrops(fluid build up in the inner ear) causing the vertigo/fluctuating hearing then he more or less said self-manage was the answer and to rest as much as possible. Trying to stay upbeat. Otherwise, all fine. 💐

I went back to ENT Friday. There was a small dot on the scan on my deaf side. They offered me further tests now or scan a year from now. I opted for a scan a year from now.

Suz_2 profile image
Suz_2 in reply to doglover1973

i suppose that is some relief , because if it was serious they would want to do all the tests soon - can i ask what would the further tests involve?

doglover1973 profile image
doglover1973 in reply to Suz_2

It's a big relief Suz_2 ! The doc offered me MRI with contrast dye . I'm not keen since it's so small and clearly not life threatening.

Suz_2 profile image
Suz_2

yes I would probably wait a year as well for another MRI - as long as they are sure its not something serious
