Tinnitus like radio bring tuned with dizziness šŸ˜ž

Hi everyone, hope you are all ok? Iā€™ve just recovered from covid and my symptoms are quite bad, especially my tinnitus! Does anyone else have it 24/7? Mine is so loud and obtrusive at the mo and sounds/feels like a radio tuning with left and right loud with varying tones and dizziness. So tiring! Iā€™ve had the dreaded T for 18 months now but when itā€™s like this, it doesnā€™t feel benign and make me so anxious. Any tips? X (chronic VM sufferer for last 12 months)

hello,ArtyPants. I recognised your name so he a quick look at your earlier posts, much of which was to do with dizzyness rather that tinnitus.

Iā€™ve had tinnitus for nearly sixty years. I can hear it above the noise of my car when travelling at sixty so itā€™s loud. But really, I hardly notice it it. Itā€™s just there and I donā€™t pay it any attention.

Yes itā€™s worse when I have a cold or when vertigo sets in, but then it fades back into the background.

When I first bought a flat I could only afford one on a main road, and so for the first few nights I couldnā€™t sleep because of the traffic noise, There was no chance I could move so I was stuck and found it very very hard to cope with life. But, after a couple of months I stopped noticing it.

Like the traffic noise tinnitus is just there.

Have you consulted the website of the British Tinnitus Association? Lots of tips and tricks to help. Specifically, put ā€œtake on tinnitusā€ into their search box and go through this training module.

Yes, I have and I got to the stage a few months ago when I wasnā€™t noticing it all the time but itā€™s back to a volume and discomfort level where itā€™s just impossible to ignore at the mo which is frustrating! I just have to know that it will die down into the background againā€¦

ArtyPants - one key thing to keep in mind is that you're recently recovering from Covid.

Any condition which attacks our system in the way that Covid seems to is likely to have an effect on pre-existing issues like tinnitus. We know that tinnitus is often found in Long Covid cases, so there's every chance that an underlying issue with our nervous system can be worsened by an infection like the novel Coronavirus.

The things that help with tinnitus generally are going to help in this situation - trying to use relaxation, stress reduction and distraction as tools against what is hopefully a temporary increase.

Hi ArtyPants, I have had tinnitus for over 20 years but itā€™s gradually getting louder, when I had covid 2 years ago it increased to such a level I thought I really couldnā€™t cope anymore but when I asked the British Tinnitus Association they told me that it is quite common after having covid and it will quieten down which it did for a while but itā€™s back now and has been for over a year, I have learnt to try and relax, take walks where there are natural noises like wind in the trees, and I find this helps, I try not to dwell on it and not let it get the better of me which I know can be hard at times.

This forum has been my go to place for reassurance and I donā€™t know what I would do without it especially in the times I am feeling low, I am sure your tinnitus will quieten down soon,

Take care.

Yes Arty-Pants46

I could not agree with more with your other replyā€™s . I too started with T 16 months right after my vaccination & cancer diagnosis & it was just as you describe like a radio tuning & loud ringing . It hasnā€™t gone away & when I first wake up itā€™s so loud sometimes but thanks to all the things I have done such as CBT mindfulness , hypnosis etc . I now get on with my day not dwell on it & it soon fades into the background. It is always worse like BTAPat says anything affects the nervous system it seems to get worse .

It helped me as my sister has it too & she always said to me you will get better in time it never goes away but you need to just tune your brain to not give it the attention it craves & think of other things more important in your life than T . Plus think of worse conditions people have to put up with & she is right . Donā€™t get me wrong I still wish it would go away completely but I accept it wonā€™t & be thankful I no longer let it control me & it will die into the background just as yours will too .

hi

Itā€™s hard and can be very tiring living with tinnitus, after 27years I still at times struggle to not give T attention.

I have accepted I will always have noises in my head although I dearly wish T would go away.

Over the last five months my tinnitus has been horrendous, roaring, humming pulsating very loud to a point whereby I felt I couldnā€™t copeā€¦..

Just last week it changed to a more acceptable sound which I am happy to accept. T does change it can take a while.

I find comfort outside in the garden with the wind through my ears, also any distraction or hobby you can concentrate on.

Wishing you all the best

Jean

Thanks Jean. I am a very sensitive person and although I am also very positive, I canā€™t just pretend itā€™s not there. I do all the things you are meant to do and sometimes it just gets to me but I also know that it will become more tolerable again. I think the fact mine is so linked to dizziness doesnā€™t help either but I love my life and wonā€™t let it get me down! Have a lovely day.

Itā€™s hard sometimes to accept tinnitus because it can be so intrusive. I am similar I think positive about things my cup is always half full never half empty but my T demands more than I can give sometimes and it is a struggle to cope

As you say it will change to a more tolerable level at some point. Distraction is the key to taking your mind away from the noises, go for walks, chat with people, take up a hobby anything to take your mind off T.

I wish my T would go away but it wonā€™t ā€¦ we have to live with it.

Take care and best wishes

Jean :-)

Hello ArtyPants. I had loud T all the time, with crazy spikes! Until I took this: 1.- Passinflower plant in the morning and at night before sleep with l-theanine (supplement or three green tea Matcha per day), but you don,t have to take medicine for sleep!Ā

2.- Magnesium L-Threonate (only this Magnesium works well with T.) five hours before sleep.

3.- GABA at midday with Gingko Biloba.

I'm sure the T. will change for the better!!
