Hi

Just to let concerned who replied to my post I went to the audiologist last Saturday he tested my hearing which was fine and don’t need a hearing aid and he’s referring me for a MRI scan

I’m still no further on from when I first seen a ENT specialist I’m so deflated .T seems to be getting worse it’s really spiking at the moment .I’m wearing a head band with speakers and listening to white noises to block the awful sounds in my head .I’ve been looking at the Aftershokz bone conduction headphones in the BTA booklet for products you can buy to help to cope with T .any one tried this product are they any good before I buy them thank you in advance

Hi Genesis, and I'm so sorry to hear of the struggles that you are having with your tinnitus (I just read your other post as well). I have had tinnitus for over 20 years, but it's progressed to tinnitus on steroids recently, and I'm struggling, so I can sympathise. Sometimes the best thing to do is literally scream, shout or cry when it gets too much, I've done it, but it only helps very short term. Using the pillow at night is a great idea, and anything that allows you to listen to white or some other sounds during the day (if it helps) has got to be a good idea. I've not seen the headband with speakers, or Aftershokz myself, but both sound great. Another option for you, If I may is, an MP3 player with some over-ear earbuds, similar to these, if you go to Argos online, and put 651/6031 in the search box, those go behind the ear, and you can then listen to the music//white noise, but still hear people talking or tv etc, just adjust the volume to suit, this can also be plugged into your mobile phone. If you do this, there is some great tracks of white noise or tinnitus music on YouTube that you can download. If you really decide to look at the Aftershokz bone conduction headphones, but want more reviews, what I tend to do is type "Aftershokz bone conduction headphones"into Google, followed by "reviews" and go from there. Other than that, maybe the MRI scan might find something, but at this stage, it's all about finding ways to live with tinnitus I'm afraid. But you are in the right place.. All the best.

Hi Pnut1Thank you for your reply .I’m so sorry to that you too are struggling with T it’s not vey nice trying to cope with the constant noises in head and ears .you’ve had T for 20 years and I have only had it 3 month .How have you managed it all them years and I’ve just started recently with my T .I’ll try anything to mask this horrific noises and will look into the over ear head phone from Argos that you mentioned.I just want my life back to how I was happy fun loving and enjoying life but this has really made me depressed and just want to end it all I’m on antidepressants at the moment but not having much effect.where do u go from here I’ve seen ENT doctors and audiologist but even I do have a MRI scan the specialist says that it will not find anything wrong only 1% of cases there find anything

Thanks again Pnut1 and keep well

I think tbh, at times you get used to it, and it can fade into the background, but then at other times, it can really be so bad it comes more to the fore. The over ear headphones from Argos, I don't specifically recommend those ones, just that type to clarify, I had a pair of sony a while ago that lasted ages. Be careful with the antidepressents, some can actually make T worse, as can some other meds. As I said before, a good shout, scream and even cry can really help. Finding the right white noise, river, ocean noise etc that gives you some relief is a good start, but don't ever feel it's that bad you are going to end it all, there are helplines where you can speak to someone, Samaritans.org is always a good place to start, I just had a look, they now do email as well, I did not know that! There must be local help groups as well, maybe check Facebook? And of course, here.

Stress and anxiety are known to increase tinnitus in those who have this ailment. It sounds like this applies to you as you sound very anxious and stressed about tinnitus....and rightly so. I've found that taking ativan 0.5mg (under the tongue) has a significant calming effect on the inner ear. You might want to discuss with your doctor and request a prescription for Ativan.

Hi Tanney thank you for replying to my post yes I’m very anxious and stressed out and have been told that this makes T worse ,but it’s not easy not to keep thinking want the future holds for me ,I just wish it would go ., but I know it will not .I’m at present on sertaline tablets I’ve only been taking them for a few weeks and tablets you mentioned are about the same for depression and when I go back to doctors I will mention the Ativan tablets and see what he says about them

Thank again take care

Hi Genesis2022,

I swear by Aftershokz and use them on a daily basis. They are just enough to distract you from the T, but you can also still hear what is going on around you. I have even worn them to sleep in.

Good luck 🙂

If you have hearing loss as well as tinnitus, depending on what causes it, or rather what type it is (sensorineural hearing loss, conductive hearing loss and mixed hearing loss) bone conduction headphones may or may not work. If you can I would wait until after your MRI. But if you have to wait too long and want to try them, get them somewhere where you can return them easily if they don't work for you.

Hello Genesis,I'm really sorry to hear about your T. But at least your hearing is fine, that is a big positive.

I have both hearing loss and T, and it's not a pleasant mixture.

A lot of people say that an MRI scan is very loud, with clanking magnets, so it would be a good idea to take some good quality ear plugs with you, so your T is not upset further. I hope all goes well, and your T calms down a bit.
