I am going to an audiologist in US (Atlanta). I have had the tinnitus for about 9 months, 24/7. We will be discussing next either Tinnitus Retraing Therapy (TRT) or hearing aids. Has anyone had good results wit either? Thoughts?

thanks

Dan

Hi Dan . As far as I know TRT is a combo of therapies like sound therapy, relaxation techniques, CBT etc . All of these things are very useful either on their own or together . Hearing aids are good for hearing loss (and tinnitus) so it depends on whether you need them or not. All the best in Atlanta .

Just to reinforce what doglover has said.

I would add that the website of the British Tinnitus Association has lots of information about all aspects of Tinnitus.Certainly hearing aids - if your hearing is impaired, and of course many people don't realise their hearing isn't as good as it used to be - should help as the real world becomes louder - so the T decreases.

Hi. I’m in the US and I had some TRT. At first the audiologist suggested a hearing aid which didn’t work. He also included discussions about tinnitus, how to change my sound environment, and most importantly, we talked about neural plasticity. One can retrain one’s thinking so the tinnitus lessens. This has worked for me. I don’t have some of my initial sound issues like chirping or treble notes sounding like a broken speaker in recordings, I consider tinnitus like someone I pass by in the street and I don’t I interact with. That person is present, but I’m not thinking about them.

I have the hearing aids and sometimes it seems to make it worse but still trying to get used to noise. Meditation helps. Going to try CBT. It’s supposed to be a combo of these things
