I work for a company that has several factory sites dotted around the UK and we have a wellbeing ambassador who helps to highlight various health issues. In advance of the awareness week I gave her a brief outline of tinnitus and citing the BTA as a trusted source of information and advice. I am pleased to say that Monday morning she emailed this to everyone in the company.
In addition, over the next few week she'll be compiling a feature to be added to the wellbeing section of the company's internal website - so employees will have access to this information at anytime.
I hope that by making this more of an issue for some we've made it a bit less of a mystery for others.
Respectfully submitted,
Keoni

That is great to hear...and is exactly what is needed.Steve Wright talked about Tinnitus week on radio 2 and there was a discussion on radio 4 last night too.
It is still very difficult for others to understand what it is like to live with it.
I think some people think T is just a ringing in the ears.
I have mild/moderate hearing loss as well as T. For decades, I was able to hold the T to what I would describe as a mild level. But since having a very noisy micro suction procedure for ear wax removal some 6 months ago, it has pushed my T up to moderate.
So I would add to the ringing a general feeling of being debilitated, having poorer concentration and often feeling like I just can't be bothered to do things. I just don't feel like myself any more, with the impaired hearing and the louder tinnitus. I know plenty of T sufferers have worse problems than me, I try to make the best of things as much as I can.
If I had 2 messages to impart to all those who currently enjoy normal hearing, they would be:
Always wear some really good ear plugs in any noisy environment such as a music gig.
Try to find an alternative to micro suction if wax is a problem. (Try using ear drops for much longer, with some people the wax does start to come out. If your GP offers water irrigation, that is far less noisy).
